Here's the thing : I'm not a native english speaker, and most music I listen to has english lyrics. I'm alright at englishing, but most of the time I don't understand most of the words in a song because they're drowned in the rest of the music and don't want to have to focus only on understanding the lyrics

the notes that they're singing matter. the voice as an instrument matter. the words aren't superfluous, but in most situations they're the least important thing in the song by a long shot.
if you enjoy your steak well done- that's okay. but I bet you don't enjoy meat as much as me.
if you like sugar in your coffee- that's fine. but I bet I enjoy coffee more than you.
if you enjoy music because of the context the lyrics give rather than the way the notes make you feel- that's okay. but i bet you aren't as in to music as i am.
