Dullest thread on the board atm

switch 7 and 5 and that's accurate

Really? Most people seem to think poorly of 5, what did you like about it?

I can't believe this shot was actually in the movie

Wow. The first time I agree with Op. Except I would switch 4 and 1 for Fleur-related reasons.

MOVIES

3>2>4>=5>>>BOOKS

7>2>3>1>4>>6

Well, that's understandable. People want "safe". They want "comfy". They want "familiar". That's why they'll purchase blu-rays of films based on one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

The duel at the end was fantastic. Harry Potter needed more of that.

>three the best

I hate this meme

3 > 5 > 6 > 4 > 2 > 1

haven't watched the last two

Stop pretending episode 6 or 7 were good.

>mfw that particular variation of the opening was copied from mine
>mfw I'm proud as fuck

"No!"

It is the best, though.

Damn I actually agree with this ranking. I MIGHT switch 6 with 7 but otherwise it's pretty solid.

It's the objective ranking.

The books are better late in the series, but movie-wise, first two are best.

Why the hate for the Goblet of fire?

Welcome to the pasta variation writer's guild of Sup Forums, user. I expect your dues by the end of the month.

Finally, someone gets it, thanks for a proper ordering OP

Just a very badly made film in general.

Plotwise, the pacing is horrendous. In the beginning we go from a dream / vision to the Weasley's house to a trip to a portkey to a quidditch world cup game stand (the game itself is skipped) to the tent to party to a "dramatic" event (which all the key plot points about it are skipped) to the train to Hogwarts within 15 minutes. No breathing room, no plot development, no characterizations.

The rest of the film follows this problem and suffers from terrible moments like this. There's also other factors like Dumbledore being incredibly out of character and the cinematography is inconsistent and usually bland.

goblet of fire is the best harry potter movie, fight me.

Wait when the fuck did this happen?

I think the first user who replied covered it very well, but to me it also just seems very off and out of sync with the other movies as well.

This. The pace is jolty, you get awkward, cheesy romance & humor scenes and then a climax that's straight out of a horror movie. Also something about Barty Crouch Jr. scenes threw me off. Felt like some David Lynch shit.

5 is easily the worst

Why?

...

I agree
Why do you think so?

6>3>5>4>7>2>8>1

My bad, thought 5 was Goblet. As you were.

switch god-tier and shit-tier

Everyone is saying goblet is shit but the graveyard scene was so fucking incredible how can you not at least appreciate that?
