Chinese company Wanda bought out Legendary pictures (Godzilla, Pacific Rim, etc.) and is trying to buy its way into Hollywood. This is because China box office is #2 in the world behind US but US profits on the releases are minimal. Wanda figured that by bank rolling their own movies that will be passed by China's certification then they make the big domestic box office totals of US movies while having larger profit margins in China where they get distribution cut as well as the regular sales cut.

Basically vertical integration in an international sense.
