Because K-Pop's sound is much more palatable for the West. And Korean actually knows how to market itself. The only people getting into Japanese music are anime fans or people that are looking to Japanese independent artists after getting into Boris, tricot, Fishmans, etc., whereas K-Pop fans are pop fans and people that get pulled in through earworms.
