Let's say I wanna start playing with a cello bow like Jonsi. Where do I begin? What kind of guitar would be best for this sort of thing? What kind of strings? Rosin?

Gavin Nguyen
I'm 23 and observe the same
I'm a novice at best but would love to have someone to figure out stuff with
It's a fucking dumb idea IMO. It's been a while but I used to play cello. >Rosin? yeah you'd definitely need it >What kind of guitar would be best for this sort of thing? The radius on cellos makes vintage fender fretboards look flat by comparison. If you have a flat radius, it'd be extremely difficult to play a single string apart from the 1st and 6th. So going on what's on the market, I would def recommend going with a guitar with a 7.25" radius. If you're going for the really fluid, legato playing style with a bow, going fretless would help with glissando too, if you wanted to do slides. Fretting a string while bowing it could sound... it'd sound unique, whatever floats your boat. Body style, a thin waist and/or carve top would also probably help. >strings? flatwound/tapewound, coated, if you can, as roundwound strings will catch on the horsehairs and shred the bow.
anyway dude have you considered just getting an e-bow?
Literally how is a piano "infinitely better"? There is literally NO versatility at all, meaning it can't be used in as many various genres of music. Electric and even acoustic guitars are infinitely more variable than the piano, meanwhile the piano only has a small few niches of music where it fits naturally.

yeah well sigur ros sounds terrible imo
take my advice or leave it ya fanny.
if there isn't one, make one. this is /gg/, fuck off with your piano talk.
Jonathan Edwards
>yeah well sigur ros sounds terrible imo exfuckingscuse me?
>7.25" jonsi never gave a fuck about radius or some shit like that.
Bentley Hernandez
1) you don't know how to keep time. try to get better at keeping time. i know you're not a drummer, but try. in parts you're falling behind the beat and then rushing to make up. in parts you're just rushing through your solos with no dynamics or expressiveness. in parts, you meander. 2) in one or two parts you bent sharp. 3) throughout the entire recording you seemed to be ignoring the backing track, or any need to frame your improv according to functional harmony. notes that sounded out of place as if they didn't belong in that key, in that chord progression, creating tension where tension should've been resolved, and again making it feel meandering and aimless.
I put effort into giving whichever one of yous asked, helpful information. didn't get any fuckin thanks for it, nah. If you love sigur ros so much, why don't you fuckin ask jonsi? dick-riding fanboy.
Jose Phillips
just finished building my second guitar the other day, have 3 more well on the way, came out really well check it out bros
>I put effort into giving whichever one of yous asked, helpful information. didn't get any fuckin thanks for it, nah. You're right, I'm sorry. Thank you for your help. Also, you're a huge pleb.
Joseph Barnes
dunlop 6k is the biggest and with the best alloy you misinformed fuckup do your research
Zachary Cruz
cool. how did you get into building guitars.
>Also, you're a huge pleb. if it lets you sleep easy at night, sure.
Gabriel Powell
Ok thanks for the feedback. What about this one. Keep in mind im hearing the backing tracks for the first time as im playing them. vocaroo.com/i/s17U4lY09zEq
James Morgan
its a beautiful coffe table, kinda want one for my loli shenanigans.
Lmao imagine being thia triggered on a guitar thread on a music board on a japanese image board. I got some fresh solos for you to be envious of. Post some new improvs if you have a working electric guitar.
built a guitar from parts and enjoyed it so much that i opened up a little workshop in my basement. Tooling cost more than expected but at the price of two very expensive guitars i can now build anything i want, its been really fun getting into woodworking in general ive already learned alot and might spread out to making other woodworking projects in the future. Right now the focus is on guitars for friends though.
better with the functional harmony on this one but your timing's still shabby. >Keep in mind im hearing the backing tracks for the first time as im playing them. have you not thought of listening to them, giving them a first playthrough, before recording?
can you please invest in a decent fuckin mic? please? it sounds like you're using the integrated mic on a budget webcam. i don't wanna listen to more of your solo improvs in that quality.
Julian Reyes
Awesome thanks for letting me know my soloing is great. I appreciate the feedback.
Ok thanks. Well i find it more fun this way. But i am in the process of building a pc i will buy a mic then. Im using my phone to record lol. Any genre you want me to take a stab at? I would appreciate the feedback. So far i gotta work in timing.

black walnut, flamed maple, narra rosewood, flamed maple, black walnut.
i have about 4 necks in that wood scheme built up already but just started milling some wenge that looks amazing and im stoked to start carving it.
because you think playing a guitar with a bow is equal to an instrument meant for bows. you dont play single notes or strings when you bow a guitar, how do you now internalize this
Blake Diaz
How boring.
Christian Foster
you jam to slow sad piano BTs. you're trying to run and it's pathetic
John Nguyen
dont have alot of photos, theyre all roughed out though, this ones going to be an explorer shaped guitar
get tae fuck you jonsi dick riding faggot. there's no "standard" to playing electric guitar with a fucking bow. if jonsi bows chords, whatever, get a 12"+ radius guitar and have at it, but jonsi didn't invent fucking bowing a fucking guitar, just cause he bows chords and goes completely against established practice with actual bowed instruments doesn't mean "you dont play single notes or strings when you bow a guitar". says fucking who? jonsi? i don't give a fuck about jonsi you dumb fucking fanboy. he's an overrated fucking nobody. fuck off.
Wyatt Barnes
You actually can play the top (thin) E string alone with a bow. Jimmy Page did it. He'd move the bow up and down rapidly with the very tip of the bow against the E string right up against the saddle for tremolo-bowed single notes. I know this works because I've done it too.
Dont run away faggot. You issued the challenge and i delivered. Are you forfeiting?
Henry Sullivan
Same thing happened to me. Now I enjoy woodworking more than playing guitar.
Ayden Phillips
dont worry son ill deliver
Jonathan Clark
Well thats because you sucked at guitar in the first place.
Justin Torres
Its an improv whats taking so long? You scared so you gotta practice something you wrote to your cherry picked backing track?
Camden Price
no i'm delaying to sand the strat's last fret, put a D string on it and set up recording.
Ethan Gonzalez
Can you show the headstock?
Juan Adams
One of my favorite octave pedals by far, it has some great features that take some tweaking but give you one of the best sub octaves you can get, especially the drive. The manual has a dozen settings that are great for figuring out how to dial in what you need
Liam Thompson
wtf was that
Noah Campbell
>polishing a turd Lmao. You dont ever even go past the 15th fret anyway. Youre shit at lead playing.
Fuck Audacity, get reaper. Or pirate something. Audacity was intended to record things like voice overs and audiobooks, recording music wasn't the main goal.
fuck off ive heard great albums make with audacity
Alexander Ramirez
obviously not
Mason Gutierrez
spammy is that you?
Isaiah Howard
no. Fucking KYS if you even dare to put a tripfag on a pedestal
Kevin Ortiz
no i use reaper
yes anyone who practices with a metronome. you are talented because you can do it without having ever used a metronome
Julian Scott
Maybe great music but garbage production. No automation, effects are permanent so you have to back up each track individually, "generate click track" and no grid system. The only thing that's easy is sliding around a track, you can make it work but the workflow is horrible.
Jackson Smith
God damnit. It would be nice if there were actual guitar players in this thread. All we get is the macaco the cripple with the oxygen tank and thats it.
Hudson Cook
yea u sound like a cunt. Great music is all that matters. more than 8 tracks is ridiculosu
Anthony Stewart
>no. Fucking KYS if you even dare to put a tripfag on a pedestal What did he mean by this?
David Thomas
>you are talented because you can do it without having ever used a metronome Hey thanks for acknowledging that.
Alexander Martin
they all left.
Blake King
>more than 8 tracks is ridiculous >proceeds to defend the wall as one of pink floyds best albums. Lotsa dumbasses in here
