This isn't The Dark Knight Returns Batman, like some people said (that Bat never killed anyone), this is a Bat who saw too many shit and is on the verge of going Punisher. He's on the verge of becoming what he started to fight against. The whole movie is a redemption arc for btas. He's going deeper and deeper into is 'insanity' and only comes out of it when he realizes that he's about to do to Supes what was done to him (losing Martha).
