What are the essential elements of James Bond as a character?

white male power fantasy for senile boomers

white

Whimsy

>not including lazenby

>No trigger discipline
Not a very good agent.

Assuming you're talking movie Bond, he has to dress fancy, say one-liners, and make things explode. Sometimes there are cars. Oh yeah and he has sex with ladies and sometimes a man I guess???

White male colonial power fantasy written primarily for the English, but sold to an international market.
This has been done in what was then (and still often is) considered "classy" modernist way, in dry yet farcical whimsy or as a late 80s/early 90s type thriller.

As for the best future course for the character, I wouldn't mind getting a true re-boot exploring Ian Fleming's prose in more detail by making things period appropriate, exploring the climate and the politics of those stories in a more historically aware context.
It's not the rout they're going to go in however, after they loose Daniel Craig they're gonna go after the Adventure Films and Fast and Furious market with a young and hip new bond more in line with PC gender politics and having a fun, quip friendly time.

Guns, Girls, Adventure, Espionage, and An Antagonist.

has to be named "James".

this

Don't be like that. Remember Bond was invented before /k/ existed.

Shitty teeth

>Dalton
>Edgelord
>not the most human and relatable Bond

In "The living Daylights" he has genuine romantic interaction with the girl instead of all that boring fuck-her-and-forget-it shit.
And in "Licence to kill" they fuck up his buddy and he goes on a RAMPAGE!

>white male power
>fantasy
Pick one.

>making things period appropriate

I loved the Man from UNCLE movie for this reason (well, and based Cavill)

>that one scene in Goldfinger where Bond makes out with a chick, sees a goon in her eye reflection and uses her as a human shield without comedic effect

this

and everyone but Craig has it

Duty, Sense of Fair Play (vs the way all the villains cheat at games), Snobbish (about cars and food), Initiative, Authority and Cruelty

alcoholic
womanizer
likely closet homosex

try reading a book sometime... theres lots of em and theyre written at grade 8 english, so even you can understand most of it op.

this

got a better image for you OP

My mom is a huge Bond fan.... Read all the books, etc. and she always told me that Dalton is by far the most true to story Bond that there was. She likes the other ones for various reasons, but Dalton is closest to the books.

interesting, female fans are pretty damn rare

your mom sounds cool as fuck

OHMSS is the single greatest Bond movie. Lazenby isn't the best Bond but OHMSS encapsulates the character of James Bond.

Yea man, she's chill. She's the one who got me into the Bond books. She's been preaching Ian Fleming to me since I was like 10. Cool lady. Nice tits too, so a bit of a double whammy.

Lazenby is underrated, not an amazing Bond but a decent one

gets way too much grief

sean connery is in all honestly, no contrarian edgelording, the worst bond

Spot on. Read all of the books, they're basically about a 1960's British Jason Bourne, all the gentleman tuxedo spy stuff was added in the films. Dalton and Craig are the most true-to-the-book portrayals of Bond.

But Pierce Brosnan isn't spelt like that.

both are great, fags

Daniel "Potato Head Heineken-drinking" Craig is obviously the worst worst

White skin

>all the gentleman tuxedo spy stuff was added in the films
way to prove you didn't really read the books

This. The people you replied to are literal children

Daniel Craig is a bad Bond, but he is not worse than Brosnan, who is lauded despite only being in 1 decent Bond movie.

Bond is the perverbial old school male... what ever era the story is set in, he has to be a guy who has a two decades too late personality... the key component to making him likeable is that he is disdainful of change and progressive ideas... he fights to keep the status quo going.

Everything else (martinis, quips, sexual encounters) are just superficial and decorative.

Bond is the guy that will keep everything how you like it and resist agents of change.

>the worst
Roger Moore is the worst.

I don't think Moore is the worst, but he is the most cartoonish. He is charming and can do the action stuff but it's turned way up to the point of being campy. I guess it was a sign of the times, primarily.

Murder

None of the Craig films are good. Casino Royale gets heaps of praise when it's mediocre as fuck and filled with horrible, eye-rolling melodrama.

The only bad Brosnan movie is Die Another Day, and even then Pierce's performance is fantastic.

false

Moore was a good Bond until he got too old

>not including Niven

Must have arms and legs.

kill yourself ableist shitlord

vodka
martini
style
lethality

fucking plebs

>I guess it was a sign of the times
Most definitely. I don't mind some camp in Bond movies but jesus they went overboard with it.

I like over-the-top camp, but I can understand how it turns some off

but I love Moore and Moonraker is one of my favorite Bond movies

You're quite sensitive. I agree though, its 2017. The role of James Bond needs to be opened up for everyone, including the quadriplegic community.

>make James Bond a gay black Muslim quadriplegic tranny you close minded nazi's

>make James Bond a gay black Muslim quadriplegic tranny close minded nazi.

Fixed it for you.

Dalton wasn't an edgelord

He has more in common with Lazenby than Craig

Digits confirm

I would love that, but Barbara Broccoli would never do it. She's grown fond of her new edgy, broken-bird Bond that drinks beer and respects women, and modern audiences and "critics" are eating it up.

They tried to introduce more classic, fun elements with Spectre and there was backlash. I think we can expect several more Casino Royales and Quantums before we ever get another Goldfinger or Spy Who Loved Me.

I wouldn't worry, at this rate it's a matter of time before Disney or Marvel Studios or whoever buys the rights to JB, and you get James Bond capeshit.

that would be even worse, fuck off with your straw man craigbabby

The fact that MGM has been struggling with funds, I could see this unfortunately happening.
