What the fuck? Finally gave in and checked out Radiohead and was super underwhelmed. Surely the later albums get better, but people still suck this album off all the time. What makes it special?

funny I recently have been trying to get into radio head as well. only heard the bends once, wasn't a fan. but ok computer and kid a were much better. been enjoying those, haven't gone back to this one yet
Name one (1) album that sounds like The Bends
Nothing it sucks balls
That album isn't good, what happened is it's the album that solidified their status as 90's Top 40 idols (after being the one-hit wonder with Creep)
So since it's so commercially successful and it's their later stuff that is critically loved, it's commercial success gets people confused into thinking it is also worthy of critical acclaim
Context is kind of important, like a lot of releases at any point in history. They came out of Britpop-era England and released an album that was - for the most part - divorced from that style of music entirely. "High and Dry" fell in that category, to be sure, but for the most part they were kind of a head-scratcher band that felt out of place until OK Computer when they started setting the trends and leading UK rock music.
5/10:
Pablo Honey
The Bends
HTTT
In Rainbows
6/10:
OKC
Kid A
Amnesiac
TKOL
AMSP
Pablo Honey
The Bends is literally their only good album.
