It didn't start becoming kid focused until partway into season 9 when Mike Scully became showrunner and they already did the episodes that weren't finished in time for season 8. That's why there's a fuckload of more slapstick involving Homer until around season 13.

Are you mexican by any chance? i remember this was episode 300 end here to prepra for it there was a days long Simpsons marathon i saw most of it and the closer it got to it every episode seemed shittier and shittier.

I was certain that episode 300 was going to be amazing, when i saw Homer and Tony Hawk flying and fighting i knew it was the end.

I was watching a lot of episodes when they were marathoning all 600 on FXX but I didn't break until the 1 where the Simpsons visit London. That episode had some of the worst utilization of celebrity cameos and just plain dated / pure schlocky stereotypes and cultural references. I wanted to scream into a pillow when they were using the mock James Bond theme

So is this show just incredibly cheap to make? How else could it have survived that long?
