The movie might have worked if they combined the first, second and the fourth movie "Revenge of Diaboromon" together (since it was a sequel to the second one) it would have made much more sense. The third movie is widely considered to be one of the worst if not the worst Digimon movie ever made because even as a standalone movie it doesn't make much sense.

No they literally jammed three separate movies together to make "Digimon the Movie."
The first part is a standalone movie, the second part with Diablomon (Diaboromon) was it's own movie and the last part with "Willis" was also its own movie. Each of those were longer in the Japanese release, but because they weren't all separately long enough for American audiences (for Japanese brats I guess they play two or three shorter films together at once in theatres, like a Digimon thirty minute flick then a One Piece thirty minute kino), they tried to mash all three together to make a Frankenstein's monster of a movie.
Add on a dreadful soundtrack and you have yourselves a shitty, but par for the course Saban production (I think 4Kids had something to do with it too).

The original movie where they meet Agumon for the first time is so jarring. They barely talk at all and it's kinda creepy how it's the dead of night and Greymon is shattering the beak of a giant bird to Bolero, but they hum the Digimon theme song and Kairi doesn't shut the fuck up for a second in the English dub. Also Davis calling Veemon a little bitch caught me off guard in that movie with Willis, maybe I got a weird sub.
