why's a 7/10 movie getting so much praise?

No idea. It felt so bland to me, yet here we are.

4/10 you mean. dishonestfilmmaking at its finest, or is it most dishonest?

Because 2016 was fucking awful about movies? And because awards always love movies depicting Hollywood/Artist shit.

For the same reason that The Artist got so much praise. Hollywood loves the taste of their own cock

This. If you imagine it as one massive Hollywood circlejerk, it becomes very simple.

>ITT, Sup Forums posters pretend they don't understand how the Academy works

The Oscars are basically "Emperor's New Clothes." Very dishonest.

academy hasn't been good for years

letterboxd.com/clayton_dillard/film/la-la-land/

what did he mean by this?

Then why no love for Hail Caesar?

it's an actual good movie

Sad!

Hollywood always loved meme movies desu

Musicals are literally the worst type of entertainment. This isn't debatable. Shit's awful.

muppets christmas carol

tell me which film deserves it more? gayniglight?

coonlight is way better than dishonest land

>letterboxd
Eliminate yourself from the gene pool.

because its a musical so normies convince themselves that they're cultured for thinking a musical is the best movie ever

Sad but twoo

>there are actually people who waste their time talking about this even though a LITERAL masterpiece was released this year
sad!

>masterpiece
hyperboles like this make you look stupid

this.

the academy loves circlejerks but only when it doesn't make fun of them.

So how much actual plot and acting is there compared to singing parts (thinking of Les Miserable as an "everything is sung lol" example)?

Are you saying singing parts don't involve acting?

I guess they do but that was not the point

Its the movie no one has seen wins best picture episode again

If you have a Muh Vagina it's 11/10. It's 7/10 for everyone else.

Half plot half singing and dancing. Both aspects feel like they need more space for the film to be a 10/10.

cheers

>movie hits each of the buttons like original score, original songs, gratuitous visual sections, and special attention to costuming.
>Fellates the Hollywood ideals and culture harder than The Artist and Argo combined
>scars are judged by movie industry insiders rather than people who genuinely just like good movies.
I just don't know, OP.

Who cares.
The awards are lame.

I hope only blacks win in every slot so they shut the fuck up this year.

>Musical
>Set in Los Angeles
>Story about Hollywood

Gee I wonder it got so many nominations...

Just once, I would like a movie that isn't about Hollywood, slavery, or how great Jews are to win a fucking Best Picture Award.

Amadeus

And I'm Human Bean. Do not forget my name!

Hollywood likes to be praised. It's no surprise Hollywood and thus The Oscars liked this flick. Also: it's a good made film, it's just that nothing happens and that Emma Stone is really ugly and not even the clown make-up in this flick can change that.

Thisss.

Ive had this in my queue for the longest time. Those numbers don't lie. I guess ill have to watch it now.

It's an emotionally manipulating and boring movie.

She is very ugly and cannot act imho

Can someone explain me the "La La Land is dishonest" meme to me

Is dishonest mememaking

Hell or high water should be winning everything. It's probably the best American movie in years. La La Land was still pretty good but a little half baked. I have no problem with it being nominated.

Marketing ? You mean same shit that happened with Joker and Suicide squad ? What bullshit did they say ?

My guess is that it means directors who don't let their creativity bloom but just do whatever is hip or has already been done thousands of times before for easy money

If that's not what it means then it should have a meme word of its own

I'd guess somewhere between 25 and 50% of the movie is singing.

The old hollywood setting has already been done a lot you mean

Musicals are nostalgia throwbacks, nothing more. It does take a lot of talent to sing, act, and dance though... so there is that. In high school I was the scarecrow and I had to sing if I only had a brain. Shit was hard.

I've not seen the movie though...

can i fap to this movie or no?

yOU TYPE LIKE A MONGOLOID rETARD

depends on who you're fapping to

It's incredibly funny to me that this same board who almost unanimously discusses and defends every single superhero movie that gets released, ever, and becomes outraged when they flop, is talking shit about La La Land and Manchester By The Sea. The very same people who are paranoid regarding some form of critic bias against their superheroes immediately start ganging up on any movie that actually gets praised. Really bizarre.

Anyway, I think it deserves it. It's very charming, and personally I'm glad the singing and dancing doesn't take over all of the movie, it's not setup/song, setup/song and that old tired formula. I could also relate to Ryan Gosling and his autistic obsession with purity and doing things right and the cinematography is beyond any discussion the best of the year, some of the visuals are nearly unforgettable, it's a beautiful movie. My favorite scene is the surprise dinner and argument in the kitchen, you can slowly feel the tension building up until the point it goes all out, and for once they actually cut the music. I was getting anxious just waiting for them to fight.

Anyway, this movie is forever tainted because my gf broke up with me after we saw it, so shit on my opinion, I am already dead and there's no peace from this hell.

spoken like a true redditor

Damn she got ugly

Don't know if this is pasta but I agree.

I keep seeing "dishonest filmmaking." What is that supposed to mean?

when the director is making movies for an audience of which they are not a part

She was only ever cute in Birdman

La la land is hot garbage

it's the same shit every year, just like American Hustle

I don't even think she was in that

>this same board who almost unanimously discusses and defends every single superhero movie
Nobody takes any superhero (or Star Wars) movies seriously here. They are just for fun and having a good time. Nothing more. I wonder about what board are you talking about.

Ayyyyyyy

The people who love star wars and capeshit are the ones praising la la land because they don't know any better

it stinks!

She was in a crazy way.
Not uber-cute, but still cute.

But Hamilton

Can't either that bug eyed frog looking bitch of that smarmy dead eyed cunt faggot. I will never watch this!!!FACT!!!

You're asking the wrong question.

You should be asking why is such a mediocre film being shilled? Normies don't really think for themselves, they pretty much believe what the media tells them to, and if a film like La La Land has been constantly shilled, they're going to think it is the greatest thing ever made.

...

> 7/10

3.5/10

You're dumb

I thought The Book of Mormon was bretty gud

Literally the last winner: Spotlight. In 2010 the King's Speech won. The there was The Hurt Locker, though that stinks. Slumdog Millionaire before that. No Country for Old Men before that, the The Departed.

Oh, I get it, you will being some edgy faggot

Wrong. I hate the vast majority of the bland, homogeneous capeshit that's released and thought La La Land was great. It was aesthetically very pretty, the score was nice and the leads did a wonderful job.

damn that movie was dull as dirt
blah blah bland gives me similar vibes, yeah

I won't lie, this is definitely me when I'm criticizing

Hollywood loves sucking on its own dick

No idea. Its dishonest shit and emma stone is a terrible actress

Dishonest critics

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

>not easy a or house bunny
The more weight she has the better

user should've focused on nominations not wins to make his point.
