> Bruce Johnston described Smiley Smile as, “Much better than ‘Smile’ but few fans ‘get it’…very organic album. Perfect album in my opinion. Brian Wilson's genius in top form except he probably would not agree with me”.
Based Bruce, patrician as fuck.
I get the appeal of it but it only makes sense in context of Smile's lack of release. It sounds like a much more hollow, rough around the edges, version of Smile. Very off kilter, incomplete and out of balance. Haunting almost. I don't necessarily think that makes it better. Though I do love Little Pad, Hungry, and the version of Windchimes on there. But stacked up as albums next to eachother, Smile was far more intricate in my opinion.
Yeah, I wonder how BBs career would go if SMiLE was released. Remember they were voted best band in the world in late 65 I think, beating Beatles, in some popular music magazine. Pet Sounds wasn't chart topper (I heard it wasn't marketed enough) but it was certainly well received by critics. Smile could go the same route. If Beach Boys would make like a couple more good albums and call it quits in 73, their legacy could be as highly regarded as Beatles'.
Brian would still go Lo-fi with Wild Honey
Marijuana is uggggh. Not good. That stuff will rot your lungs out & form holes. One marijuana cigarette is the equivalent to sticking your mouth on a truck exhaust. I like my music drug free
Maybe, nothing wrong with that, WH is great, but I think after Smile fiasco, Brian wasn't so motivated to make music like he did the previous year. So if everything went right and he'd would release his magnum opus like he planned, who knows what other music he'd make after that.
Exactly, Brian would probably wanna cool off on the whole elaborate production and just make something simple, thus releasing Wild Honey, with a little EP included called Smiley Smile, containing With Me Tonight, She's Goin' Bald, Little Pad, Gettin' Hungry, and Whistle in
Alright so here is how I think the discography would go down if SMiLE was released
1967 - Wild Honey (Including a bonus EP entitled Smiley Smile)
1968 - Friends
1969 - Reveberation (AKA 20/20)
1970 - Sunflower (Double Album)
1971 - Landlocked (AKA Surf's Up)
1972 - So Tough
1973 - Holland (The Final Album)

I'd rather have Love You than the real SMiLE
Love You is a perfect Brian Wilson solo album
Friends is such a fucking fantastic album.
Truuuuue
Smoke Weed Everyday.
a Wild Honey album with all the non-smile SMiLE songs would have been a great followup back to the basics psychedelic album
the word you're looking for is PUNT
you're either 13 or not american
JUST SO YOU KNOW
If you've listened to this before but haven't listened to the stereo remix they put out a few years ago, give that a listen. It sounds MUCH better
