the reason most people hate tool is because their fans tend be egomaniacs, hell even maynard fucking hates tool fans. Tools music is pretty standard as far as prog goes. There are many prog bands that are far superior to tool. That being said, tool is still an alright band, just not what everyone blows them up to be.

Anyone who actually studied music would find the strokes as more "complex" or "high information" A strokes arrangement fits together like a baroque quartet where tool is really just drummer music. Its lego with odd meters. They are all playng in unison and take 4 years to figure out something polished enough to present to thier audience as genius. Its really not that impressive if you are on the other side of music and know whats actually happening. Tool is basically a stupid mans smart music. YOu cant even groove you just get off on th smell of your own farts. All tool has is dynamics. No room for anything else.
