Don't get me wrong, i've had illiterate students who understood concepts like 'crabs in a barrel' only because they picked them up from Wu-Tang tracks.
So in a way they aren't illiterate anymore because a literate person managed to compress his reading and understanding down into a few bullet points, then present them in an entertaining way credible to that kid.
So a good artist can use anything to bring people up from ignorance to sharing in a language of ideas.
