Nobody wants environmental doom, but if corporate entities can continue their unsustainable practices they will, regardless of public opinion, as long as they can turn a larger profit. While some corporations engineer more environmental products (ie automobiles), the focus of corporate entities is almost never on cleaner production. Long story short, consumers want environmental cars, but are mostly indifferent about environmental car factories and waste disposal. There are more environmentally safe ways to manufacture things and dispose of waste, but a corporation bent on self service will always choose the cheapest method regardless of environmental impact. Government restrictions of big business are necessary to enforce ethical and conservation minded treatment of the environment in my eyes, because no corporation should be expected to regulate its self based on the fickle demands of the consumer.
