The fact that so many books still name Louis Armstrong as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" jazz musician ever only tells you how far jazz music still is from becoming a serious art. Rock critics have long recognized that the greatest rock musician of all times is Captain Beefheart, who was not the most famous or richest or best seller of his times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Jazz critics are still blinded by commercial success. Armstrong sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore he must have been the greatest. Rock critics grow up listening to a lot of rock music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Jazz critics are often totally ignorant of the jazz music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that Louis Armstrong did anything worthy of being saved.
I dont know who would listen to jazz that doesnt play it. Im a professional and it all sounds the same to me. Its just studying when I listen. Who the fuck sits down and listens for enjoyment? Its like reading a textbook. Total posers. You guys dont understand whats going on and are just pretending. Seems really fucking sad to me. Anyways carry on.
white boy with no groove
Friendly reminder the last jazz album to hit #1 on Billboard and go platinum is Lady Gaga's Cheek to Cheek. It will also be the LAST jazz album to ever do so.
IT'S A DEAD IRRELEVANT GENRE, REST IN PISS!
TBQH famsquad
I mean I enjoy it and I don't play, bebop is like any other song but it tells a story with the instruments not lyrics,so you have to pay attention to the music and cut yourself from everything else,at least that's how I see it

what point are you trying to prove? if this image is meant to be ironic then you are just saying you don't like jazz which is an absolute tragedy as much of this board doesn't seem to understand the genre. if you aren't then you are just a huge asshole. try listening to jazz with an open mind; it is amazing.

Jazz is the last refuge of the untalented.

Why would you be a professional musician if you dislike what you play this much? Why don't you just get a wagecuck office job where at least you earn a livable wage?
