There's no stigma, there's just obesity. Lose weight and you might get better (and live past 45, if you survive all the shooting).

Fear of Latin American immigration and also an unquenchable desire to be different from the rest of the world.

Because it's an after-school activity for kids

I can't wait until we get an American global superstar and he's a la raza chicano, a nazi, or a somali with cousins in isis

Because it's for fags, hipsters, and illegals.

It's always been considered a sport for women and children. There's no stigma, it's just not popular.

Homophobia is still a big problem. Many people are afraid of the backlash they will get when others find out they are gay.

American exceptionalism
We don't watch sports where we don't have a history of international success, instead we call those sports gay and for communists

*It's just like baseball in the UK. In the UK, baseball is a game for little girls, they call it rounders. But nobody would say there's a stigma surrounding baseball, or blame the UK's lack of interest in baseball on anti-american sentiment. It's just not popular there.

our womens team is really good tho

What they said

It's going to be a Croatian man who can't pronounce his surname correctly.

That's retarded. We have a history of consistent international success in gymnastics and swimming but nobody watches those sports except during the olympics. We've only won two gold medals in hockey and it's a fairly popular sport here.

Those posts were both by me, that's why I added the asterisk next to the second one.

Oh
Well it was good posts

Because of the cognitive dissonance of knowing were the best at sports while simultaneously sucking at and not giving a fuck about the most popular sport.

When soccer came to the U.S., it was already a sports-saturated market, so players were mostly men who lacked the muscles for football, the height for basketball, the reflexes for baseball, the extra chromosome for racing and the climate for hockey.

So you didn't have a lot of talented players, the games were subsequently lackluster, and of course all the wealthy sponsors and promoters were already busy with established sports. It just never really had that much of a chance.

Why is the womens team so good then?

>We have a history of consistent international success in gymnastics and swimming but nobody watches those sports except during the olympics.
It may be once every four years but that's still better than soccer's standing in the US. As nice as 2014 was, most people in this country didn't care. Gymnastics and hockey especially had those years where it was popular because again, we had to beat those commies Russia

if we can't be the best, we don't want to know about it

less competent competition
our womyns team is also quite good

Because nobody else in the world gave a fuck about women's soccer. It was something that started in the 1990s, with everyone on even ground. US women's soccer had a massive advantage thanks to Title IX, which allocated literally millions of dollars to women's soccer scholarships and therefore talent development. That's why our women's team routinely annihilated pretty much everyone. There have been just 7 finals, the US has won 3 of them and appeared in 4 of them.

Could the US womens team beat the US mens team at this point?

Because the competition levels for women are much lower. For example: our women's team will never lose in an incredibly pathetic and embarassing fasion to Trinidad and Tobego because women there aren't allowed to play sports.

>croatian
He is a proud serb.

There's no stigma, it's just not popular at all. I live in Arizona with tons of Mexicans and baseball, football, basketball and hockey are probably the most discussed sports at the water cooler even among the spics.

Maybe when we get a soccer league to pop off here instead of just an international team people will go for it

>It may be once every four years but that's still better than soccer's standing in the US.
Is it really though? Soccer has a professional league that averages like 25,000 fans in attendance per game and makes hundreds of millions of dollars per year. Not to mention the presence of English, Spanish, and especially Mexican soccer (which even outdrew the NHL playoffs once). Soccer is light years ahead of gymnastics and swimming when it comes to people watching it on a regular basis.

>Gymnastics and hockey especially had those years where it was popular because again, we had to beat those commies Russia
I'm not talking about 30 years ago...if you're somehow typing this from 1989 then I agree with you completely, but if you're typing it in 2017 it's completely irrelevant.

>competition levels for women are much lower
Source?

>what is MLS

of course not

Depending on how lenient the yellow cards are? Yeah.

Everything that guy wrote. Women weren't playing noticeable amounts of football, baseball, basketball, hockey or racing when soccer arrived in America, and coupled with Title IX it was a perfect opportunity for a niche sport to develop.

Hell no. The US men's under-15 team beat the adult women's team 8 to 0. A random German youth boy's team beat the German women's national team, same thing happened in Sweden, in Australia...you get the idea. Once puberty hits, the strength/speed gap between men and women becomes so extreme that there's really no competition in any sport.

this country's sports are dominated by strong men not fucking twinks.

What difference would the yellow cards make?
Didnt the U-15 team beating the womens team happen in australia?

It's not popping just yet whatever it is

...

*Also you'll notice that the teams which routinely do well in the women's tournament are the US, Germany, Sweden, and Norway. Those three European countries are famous for being extremely progressive and are probably one of the few European countries willing to allocate serious cash towards women's talent development.

It happened in the US and in Australia. In the US it was FC Dallas' U-15 team, in Australia it was a club called Newcastle Jets or something like that. It also happened in Sweden and Germany. It's very common for women's national teams to play against teenage boys for training because it's good practice. And they basically always lose. The US women's hockey team does the same thing.

American culture insists that boys do something violent to become men. In non faggy parts of the country the ideal male is the stereotypical Chad. Soccer is non-violent, foreign and largely a place for mothers to squawk at each other while their autistic children score own goals and eat grass.

The US men's team is known for playing it very close to the line with infractions. If that is allowed, they probably win. If not, it's a coin toss. Yes, a group of 10 random men could beat a group of 10 random women at soccer basically every time, but the current actual women's team is fucking talented, and the current actual men's team just isn't.

We routinely see literal children's teams mopping the floor with the adult women's teams. There is no way the women would stand any chance against the men.

Cause Americans don't find watching a women's sport being played by men entertaining.

I love football but I understand burgers.

I wouldn’t follow the MLS. It’s a joke.

No relegation or promotion. No lower leagues. Draft system. Seperated into east and west?

The current women's team has lost to a high school boy's team. Stop spouting off at the mouth about a subject you know nothing about.

It has to be set up that way. The sport is simply not popular enough for fans to support a relegated team that was founded in the last 15 years. If a team gets relegated in a major city, they die. Also the US is bigger than the entire EU with the population fairly evenly spread out, you need to split it into East and West or travel times become intolerable.

>it's a sport for kids
>it's a sport for women
>it's a sport for hispanics
>it's a sport for effeminate men
>it's corrupt as fuck
>it's boring to watch
>it's not intensely physical yet players flop like crazy, pretending they're hurt instead of pretending they're not. makes them look weak and petty
>it has no fan presence and hardly shown on TV
>we don't care about european clubs, we'd rather care about the american ones BUT
>the MLS is a joke league and only hipsters like it
>since club soccer all sucks for us and we have american pride, the USMNT is all that matters and they aren't very good

THESE ARE ALL TRUE in the eyes of the total american culture, but the number one real reason is that our culture was lucky enough to have many generations where
>the only sports we cared about
were also
>the sports we were top-tier if not the very best in the world at
and we're not that way with soccer. It's hard to reconcile that for us. Literally every other country on the planet knows how, just not us because we're not used to it. In america, being a good sport means we win at it, there are no alternatives. Go big or go home, winning isn't everything it's the only thing. If we suck at then nobody's going to really try to care. Even if there are other excuses, people would try a lot harder to get over that stuff if we just WON AT FIFA.

But we don't, so nobody really gives a shit and it's looked down on. Real talk.

Because it's boring

AFAIK you have 18 teams in the MLS

It should be possible to create a lower League with smaller teams

>If a major city gets relegated it will die

Why would they. Sort the shit out and get promoted back next season.

If you are scared of setting in relegation you will never improve

It’s funny you burgers are so communist in sports.

>Why would they. Sort the shit out and get promoted back next season.

MLS fan base is why

we have lower leagues yuropoor, multiple of them. a whole soccer pyramid even. they just don't have the development that MLS does. relegation could theoretically work in a hypothetical situation, but it couldn't in the MLS because of the specific structure and details for how that's set up. it has nothing to do with anything else, just the MLS. in order to implement things like relegation, you'd have to completely scrap the MLS and start over, building it like a european model, which will never happen.

This, I only watch hockey and tennis now.

There isn't a particular stigma associated with soccer among average Joe Americans and casual sports fans.

Tell the average American we were eliminated from the WC, and you'll get a blank stare followed by a lukewarm, "Well, that's too bad," Foreigners probably have the impression that Mr. Average American would launch into a red-faced tirade about how soccer is for faggots and third worlders, but that isn't reality, despite people on facebook and twitter.

If there's any stigma, it's that it's a suburban white sport for the upper-middle class.

>this retarded Danish shitskin prescribing league structure as if soccer activity in America should be allowed to continue at all

>Why would they. Sort the shit out and get promoted back next season.
Because the fans, who are barely there to begin with, will leave and never come back. The team will stop making money, there's no "sort the shit out", MLS teams have to struggle to get fans to choose their games over baseball/basketball/football/hockey as it is. Promotion/relegation would kill soccer in the US.

No.. you do love soccer. You secretly deep down inside are devastated by not qualifying. You want to be a power on the world stage like your big brother, England. Don't worry, m8. You'll get there someday. Not. Hahaha.

Imagine if basketball was the most popular sport in the world. Imagine if you sucked at it. That's basically how we feel about soccer.

Because soccerfags were and still are massive hipster fedora tippers who only pay attention to soccer (and they don't, they just like to have a faggy scarf) because it isn't the norm

>You want to be a power on the world stage like your big brother, England.

but this isn't an global acid attack tournament

2-1.

>56% man calling a Dane a shitskin

I'm annoyed at the rampant shitposting all over this board, but that's it

It takes a shitskin to know one desu

maybe reddit would suit you better

>but this isn't an global acid attack tournament

fucking kek

Need more niggers playing it

Are you deliberately trying to be retarded, or is this how you really think?

>In non faggy parts of the country the ideal male is the stereotypical Chad. Soccer is non-violent, foreign and largely a place for mothers to squawk at each other while their autistic children score own goals and eat grass.

This is a good point. Many kids were raised on Hulk Hogan/The Rock/John Cena, Stallone, Schwarzenegger movies featuring men with super hero builds throwing people around and dominating through sheer physicality.

Our main sports reflect that (inb4 baseball? While it's not a contact sport, that overpowering mindset is demonstrated through humiliating a pitcher by hitting a 480 foot bomb or dominating a hitter with 100mph fastballs).

No athlete wants to be a 5'7" 130lb manlet, like this Pusilic kid. Soccer more often than not just looks like a light jog through park with a ball involved, much how foreigners view football as just fat men crashing into each other.

Foreigners seem to enjoy watching athletes with more feminine builds apply their craft, while Americans like to see a Titan vs, a Titan.

This.

USA is the special snowflake of the world.

You guys choked pretty hard against T&T, m8. Maybe if you guys gave more of a shit instead of not giving a shit like you tell us you do, you'd be a little better at this sport.

USA is still a young country, so it hasn't given up its desire to be edgy and a 'free-tinker'. Just accept soccer, you fags.

@78896778
I don't talk to middle easterners.

He's wrong. Soccer isn't overwhelmingly popular in countries that gained Independence from your clown show before 1903.

>Splitting the sample into four different time periods containing roughly the same number of pairs, you see that of the set of countries that gained independence before 1903, only 14.3% share popular sports with their former imperial power. This goes up to 26.3% for the period between 1903 and 1948, jumps again to 56.5% for 1948 to 1965, and dips a bit to 50.0% for the period after 1965. (The pattern is similar if you look at the overlap between the top 2 or 3 sports in each pair, but the sample size for each period drops since the number of listed sports in each country is not the same.)

esquire.com/sports/news/a23699/america-soccer-love/

Codified soccer also isn't that old. Professional baseball in this country is older than the sport of soccer itself.

Do you even have a job, Bráulio?

Isn't soccer mainly a pay to play sport? No wonder it isn't that popular among kids here.

>UK
>Middle-East
American education everyone.

the lengths people will go to in this country to justify their BBC obsession

t. Manley Paco.

Since when are hogan, cena, stallone, Arnold black?

It's more about disliking the feminine Manlet physique than "worshiping bbc," Paco.

There was no stigma until FIFA literally stepped in and bullied the fledgling American league into submission because, like everything else, we were doing it better than the rest of the world.
>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Soccer_League_(1921-33)

This was also around the same time the US finished 3rd at a World Cup, so talent was there.

Why do you so badly want the US to love this sport?

Americans associate black people with superior athleticism, when they see a sport where black people don't dominate, and where the better players and teams are either European or half-European, they think it's a lesser sport than football or basketball where everyone is black.

every sport is like that until you reach the top.
a huge investment and most of the time no return.

you realize that this world cup aside, you guys have posted america-tier results in the world cup in this century? you haven't been better than us, you've been playing down to our level. we just one-upped you there this time around, and played down to concacaf's level which is even worse.

I didn't know this before. Holy shit, reading all of that made me so fucking mad.

In all of this non-qualification bullshit, we have to remember that there are yuros on this board who, to this day, defend FIFA as an organization.

>Americans associate black people with superior athleticism....
this post makes no sense the way it is, change it to
>Brazilians associate black people with superior athleticism
and now I can see why you'd post that. why you projecting so hard tho?

>Americans associate black people with superior athleticism
precisely. Why do you think we bandwagon Brazil and Argentina so hard?

but euro soccer leages are full of blacks. and so are some of their national teams like france. also what is ice hockey.

too white

what about black people in baseball? it's still seen as a huge sport but black participation has really dipped off compared to decades past, and most of the ones that are left are actually hispanic blacks, like cubans or dominicans.

Flopping is un-American (it's basketball's greatest shame too, even though it happens even less there)

Ties are un-American

Not adhering strictly to the game clock, and/or allowing officials to add arbitrary lengths of extended play based on their own opinions, is un-American

Field is too large for the style of play. Hockey is a similar game with a much better pace because the rink is small.

No periodic breaks. Fans don't mind this but American advertisers definitely do.

>game clock says 34:23
>euros call this 35 minutes, not 34
I get it, but it's still dumb as fuck. Game clocks should count down, not up, and stop when the game does, because that is what the time is supposed to be measuring. No game no clock.

Because it's fucking gay.

>but euro soccer leages are full of blacks.
not really
>and so are some of their national teams like france.
they're the only ones

Lmao that game wasn't even televised here. The only reason we cared about the world cup on 2014 was out of patriotism. I root for the American luge team during the winter Olympics, that doesn't mean I'm gonna reguarly watch it or enjoy watching it.

Fpbp

you are in no place to dish out shooting bants

red is blood?

But this is bollocks

Footer is #1 everywhere except oz, china, and usa

We never owned south america or most of the mid east or africa

Your shot study might be relevant to corfball or handball, but not the goat

Oh and india.

>watching luge

Do you have a learning disability?

Why don't you euros compete against us in baseball? We are #1 in baseball.

to be fair, you should only compare us with Western Europe and Canada when it comes to this argument (fuck, it's the entire basis of this meme anyway).

No one in the world is expecting Brazil to be anything other than an open air sewage system of a country so you're not really saying much by showing that our homicide rates are far lower than Brazil's
