Check out some of the New Hollywood classics.
good stuff here

mine:

Blade Runner
Diabel
Stray Dogs
I Vitelloni
The Cranes are Flying

Big ups for Fellini and underrated Kurosawa
Checked and good on ya for loving Bicycle Thieves

Manhattan
The Apartment
Apocalypse Now
La Dolce Vita
Chinatown

great shit 5/5
i think you should see the rest of buñuel in the 50's, amazing stuff

Stray Dogs (2013), not the Kurosawa one.

La Dolce Vita and Apocalypse Now are incredible.

Oh whoops that is Stray Dog, my bad. Blade Runner is incredible too. Cautiously optimistic about it's sequel

no probs, i like the kurosawa one too btw

also, whats your preferred cut for both Blade Runner and Apocalypse Now? (i'm not that enthusiastic about the sequel to be honest)

Any version of Blade Runner beside the theatrical cut is fine, but I think the final cut is the best one. I do prefer the theatrical version of Apocalypse Now however. The scenes they added in the redux killed the pacing and felt unnecessary

City of God (seriously, so fucking good)
Blade Runner
Princess Mononoke
Whiplash
The Prestige

why don't you like the theatrical cut? (i havent seen it btw)

The studio thought the film wouldn't make sense so they added a narration by Ford. Ford was against it so he sounds bored and frustrated. It kills the atmosphere

Fellowship of the Ring
No Country for Old Men
Pan's Labrynth
The Green Mile
The Hunt

They're what came to my head first anyway

Forest Gump
T2 judgement day
Let the right one in
Rushmore
On the waterfront

The good, the bad and the ugly
Possession
A bout de souffle
Dead Alive
La Haine

Come on son

I really need to check out "12 Monkeys". Apparently it's a sci-fi classic in the vein of Blade Runner.

>Reservoir Dogs

Not as good as the hype, but still pretty good. What the fuck was Mr. Gold's problem?

A Brighter Summer Day
Magnolia
Dancer in the Dark
Pierrot le Fou

Plebspotting is exemplary book adaptation

1. The good the bad and the ugly
2. Taxi driver
3. Apocalypse now
4. Fargo
5. Grand budapest hotel

>Quadrophenia
>the movie

Really? Weird pick. Brilliant album. There's something special about being a brooding "misunderstood" teen who listens to Quadrophenia day in and day out. Special place in my heart.

I'd say my favorite movie is Raging Bull.

ive never liked this movie.
did you read the book before the movie?
be honest, lad.

One of the best imo.

Actually raised the quality of the source material in numerous ways. Better characterization, funnier scenes, more fun story, better ending scene, better "plotline", more likable characters, more despicable characters.

I say that as a huge fan of Irvine Welshs books too.

Just rewatched Raging Bull again the other day. Incredible film. One of the all time great performances by DeNiro.

And why am I not surprised that so many people on Sup Forums love Taxi Driver

If you're reading this and like Scorsese watch After Hours

solid but grand budapest hotel.
i can see why peeps like wes anderson, he has a style, but hes too light and zany for me.

Those are pretty good. I like Bruce Lee too.
My top 5
And the Ship Sails On...
Nights of Cabiria
Rodan
Trollfjoten
Hell or High Water

Yeah, had to read it for my 11th grade english class. We had a list of books to choose from and 16 year old me was like ooh I hear this one has drugs in it.

I think you appreciate the movie it a lot better if you've red the book.

Wood Job!
Shaun of the Dead
Coraline
Waterboys
Shaolin Soccer

i'm sorry i'm a weeb and only watch shit movies to the point that i don't have many favorites

well, fair enough.
ive never read it, so might add it to my pile of stuff to read.

Out of all Steven Chow you pick Shaolin Soccer?
Watch Kung Fu Hustle, God of Cookery, Journey to the West

the godfather
casino
minority report
blood in blood out
white men cant jump

i actually didn't like Kung Fu Hustle much, but God of Cookery looks great, and Journey to the West looks pretty solid too. thanks for that.

Annie Hall
La Dolce Vita
Repulsion
Days of Heaven
Leave Her to Heaven

"This utter aloneness is at the center of "Taxi Driver," one of the best and most powerful of all films, and perhaps it is why so many people connect with it even though Travis Bickle would seem to be the most alienating of movie heroes. We have all felt as alone as Travis. Most of us are better at dealing with it." - Roger Ebert

I'd wager it's not just Sup Forums. But there are many "alone" people on Sup Forums. I love Taxi Driver, and connect deeply with that sense of alone-ness, but the larger struggles of my life align more with Jake LaMotta.

That said, Goodfellas is less-impactful, but I could rewatch it every day for the rest of my life and never get tired of it.

Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer were trying to appeal to a more international crowd. After Chow's big misfire with Cj7, he returned to his roots with Journey to the West, more in the vein of God of Cookery. The final 20 minutes of God of Cookery are the greatest thing ever to come from Hong Kong.

Goodfellas
Apocalypse Now
Last Crusade
Robocop
TGTBATU

Good job on picking the worst Fellini

Plebs

Lawrence of Arabia
Paris, Texas
Double Life of Veronique

The Return of the King
The Dark Knight
Interstellar
Gladiator
Princess Mononoke

Fight Club

You don't like Ship Sails on? I thought the Operatic interludes were pretty clever and it had a cool ending.

The Princess Bride
Star Wars (1977)
Heaven Can Wait (1943)
500 Days of Summer
When Harry Met Sally

Requiem for a dream
Cinema paradiso
Rear window
The prestige
Nightcrawler

thanks man!
