Trying to expand my music taste.
First time in Sup Forums and first time listening to pic related. Really good imo. Which other basics should I listen to?

Pic related is fucking bad
Unknown Pleasures is shmack. Check out Kid A by Radiohead.
wrong
Also op, if you like that go listen to Closer, Substance, and then move on to New Order if you want more
Closer is arguably a better album
You'll fucking love this.
The top albums at rateyourmusic are probably a fine place to start. There are many problems with it for sure, but it's got many of the all-time most acclaimed albums that you should check out.

Also listened to A Moon shaped pool after years and years of only listening to Creep haha. Also liked it a lot
Seconding this.
Check out Pornography by The Cure. Here's a taste.

Listen to OK COMPUTER u will like it if you likes creep
Sounds like you like post-punk. This is some classic post-punk right here.

Thanks mates, looks like I'll be taking a dive into Post-punk for quite a while. Anything "Must listen" from other genres?
Here's some great 60s psychedelic rock. Psych can get real fucking weird though, so if you're not into that, it might sound like shit to you.

Here's some essential (and some pretty obscure not-so-essential) shoegaze/dream-pop. Its basically just noisy, fuzzy, dreamy sounding rock music.

post-punk is the only good music
Not going to lie, I honestly don't find myself enjoying music that complex right now that i wouldn't put while driving or just listening casually, however I will try. Same thing happened with movies and now I enjoy some weird shit, hopefully same thing happens here
Thanks for the more "experimental" suggestions guys
Well scrap that, just listened to some of those and it's not really that unusual

not nearly funky enough in here
Thrash, if you're into metal and want something heavy but not TOO heavy or screamy.

Its basically a cross between hardcore punk, and classic heavy metal. Here's a sample of each, so you can get a feel for its stylistic origins.

I find softer shoegaze like Slowdive incredibly relaxing. I listen to it to fall asleep sometimes. The psych shit can get really weird though.
don't listen to any of these guys, all you need is some good old fashioned power pop

This is quite possibly the worst opinion of all time.
yep, OP let that be a warning, don't fall too far down the Sup Forums rabbit hole and become a fucking retard
If you liked post-punk, you might just like plain old punk. Post-punk is just punk but darker, slower, and sadder.

This band is actually Joy Division before they were called that.
Power electronics, you wanted experimental shit.

came from Industrial, but weirder and focused on electronic instrumentation.

disclaimer: I'm pretty much a power electronics pleb, but i've been having a good time exploring so far
t. redditors
Are you trying to kill him? Power electronics is fucking insane lol
>Post-punk is just punk but darker, slower, and sadder.
t. doesn't know shit about post-punk
he mentioned about the other stuff that had been posted when I started making that wasn't that unusual, might as well get freaky right? and the first one especially isn't _that_ weird
I'm the dude who recommended pretty much every post-punk song/album in this thread. That's the best way to describe it to somebody who doesn't know about either genre. If you take a normal punk song, slow it down, add a fuckton of reverb, and get a singer who sounds like a vampire (Ian Curtis, Peter Murphy, etc) you've pretty much got a post-punk song. Obviously there's a lot more to post-punk than that, but that's the easiest way for me to describe it.
holy word salad, my bad, I think it's time for bed
Honestly when or in what mood do you hear this shit? lol
Thanks anyway, I'll try it when it's daytime and doesn't creep me out
I like to pop my headphones on just before bed and become one with the universe sometimes, it's quite the experience.
other than that, i dunno, sometimes i just want to hear some weird shit
you dont do drugs, do you?
Not the guy you're replying to, but I want to add to this . When you listen to enough post-punk, the lines between it and regular punk really do get blurred, and it all kinda blends together.
All of these bands are considered "post-punk" and these songs really don't sound much different from your average punk song. They're just a little more experimental. The core elements of a punk song are still there.

Alternatively, this song from the Misfits (who are considered a punk band) wouldn't sound too out of place on a Joy Division record, with its prominent bassline, reverb, and Danzig's dark voice.

This intro to this Bauhaus song is almost identical to the intro to this Misfits song.

Its all punk, mate. Just different flavors. Music critics in the 80s used to call it "Dark Punk"
if youre looking for newer post-punk (using that term loosely) then you should check out some of these bands that take some inspiration from bands like joy division. not sure if you would call these Sup Forums essentials but if you want some more modern stuff look into these bands.

what an astounding observation. what could have tipped you off?
because you said im expanding my tastes and posted a hot topic tier starter album
only a hip hop fan would do something like that
Do not use this board. RYM and Scaruffi are unironically better for music recs
>you said
i didn't say anything. this is my second post in this thread you moron.
i just don't get why you felt the need to point out OP is trying to find new music to listen to when he explicitly states it in his post.
well then my post must have hit a little too close to home for you to reply to a post that wasnt intended for you
just felt like pointing out what a useless post it was. no need to get defensive.
the partisan choice
this is all you need
Google "Sup Forumscore chart" and you will find a lot of charts with albums popular on Sup Forums, though if you post any one of them on here people will say it is too Reddit-centric. Listening to albums from there will get you acquaintanced with the music Sup Forums likes, anyway. You're welcome, and good luck!
Thank you user, I fucking love this shit. So calming
>milk from cheltenham
not op but im loving this bizarre shit
here's the best album of all time
