It could never be the original film. But I'm glad they didn't just retread the same plot beats in an updated setting
It felt like a new film with the old characters, which is what a sequel should be unlike others - not mentioning any names...

Spud got his share but he's mad because "what did you think a junkie would do with 4 grand!". Sickboy is mad but gets over it and Begbie spends the film chasing Renton to try and kill him. He claims to have killed a man in prison just for looking at him when he was thinking about Renton.
