How come WB keeps fucking with DC but lets jk rowling do whatever she wants?
How come WB keeps fucking with DC but lets jk rowling do whatever she wants?
JK Rowling does fuck all.
The worst Rowling movie is better than the best DC movie so far.
J.K. Rowling gives them money and good reviews + satisfied fans.
She gets to do what she wants because it's one of the greatest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been unique and diverse from the others. Aside from the smart, deep imagery, the series’ consistencies have been its unrelenting excitement and effective use of special effects, all to make magic feel real, to make action tense and captivating.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would always be viewed as a work of art that could truly mean something to anybody, creating a well-deserved profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly an unrivaled series in its celebration of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one can deny that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
>b-but the books were bad though
"No!"
The writing is beautiful; the book was unparalleled. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was obviously a metaphor. Rowling's mind is so consistent and immersed in her writing that she has reuses phrases to create poetry. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same William Shakespeare. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read William Shakespeare." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read William Shakespeare.
foreign markets in particular china love harry potter and since china is the future once trump takes usa down to a second rate economy it is a far more important market
WB and Heyman gave Columbus, Cuaron, Newell and Yates full creative control. And it shows, they are great.
Because the Harry Potter are dumb mass-marketed children's books being handled by a collection of standard tv directors who won't offend anyone's aesthetic sensibility and provide simplistic tales of no moral, spiritual or emotional weight that can be consumed by the masses.
Whereas with DC they want to try to replicate that but hire these extremely stylized and visionary directors and screenwriters who fuck the story into something that isn't what the mass of fanboys want.
That said I think man of steel is probably the best capeshit.
Harry Potter actually makes money, DC shit has to compete with marvel shit and Nolan ran the grimdark well dry five years ago
What a shit, 100% derived (((((((((((opinion))))))))))))
>Newell and Yates
nigga i like the movies but those two can't direct for shit
>muh darkness
>muh awkward humor
>muh shitty montages with blaring music to drown out whatever emotion they're trying to wrangle from the viewers
I'm so confused
>implying casting depp was jk rowling's idea
nah, the cracks are starting to show. WB couldn't get redmayne to sign on for all 5 films so they got depp because they need an "A lister" and of course jkr the feminist is strangely quiet about allowing an alleged domestic abuser to play a central role in her films.
They are some of the ugliest fucking movies ever made. And for a story about fucking magic it's pretty unmagical.
And the characters are dumb.
D U L L E S T
>people who defend harry potter are so dull they can't even come up with an original pasta
Stop sameposting, faggot
...
They are some of the best looking and most touching ever made. Pleb.
You're just using buzzowords. They are the only actual english directors. So the comedy drama is very english. Also yea shit gets dark after voldemort returns and harry doesn't have a good time.
4 was a mixed bag but the others couldn't have been directed better if you look at the scripts.
They didnt let her do whatever she wants. WB made her set Fantastic Beasts in New York to cater to domestic audiences.
>he literally didn't get harry potter
>witchcraft can't ever be dark
Nobody cares about FB. She didnt write the scripts for HP.
Because she's the author of one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the seriesüf only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but itüfs certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
>a-at least the books are g-g-good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King
She never sold her all her film rights, so she has creative control.
That was pretty smart of her. Besides the movies her only "career" seems to be revealing stuff about the Potter universe i.e. stuff that she invents on the spot to stay relevant.
quadman tells no lies
This isn't true either. WB wanted Fantastic Beasts to be an Attenborough-style documentary until JKR took over.
She didn't write the scripts but she had a final say on what stayed in and what didn't. She cut whatever lines she feel didn't belong.
FB didn't cater and no character was just a rehashed version of an HP character, that automatically makes it kino.
Because Harry Potter movies make money, DC movies usually do not.
Harry Potter makes money.
she's not as messy as Lucas by a longshot, she actually thinks things through and her lore is very consistent.
For example there are lines in Fantastic Beasts suggesting that Grindelwald is a seer. She pretty much confirms this on twitter. Then if you reread Deathly Hallows you'll realize that even in that book he had like one scene but he was implying he could see into the future. Pretty impressive desu.
DC movies made bank even though the reviews were shit. Explain how they didnt make money.
>consistent lore
>cursed child
pick one
DC movies make more money than HP on average. Had Suicide Squad been released in China the DCEU would have made the same money than the MCU in 2016, Harry Potter isn't in the same league
>the one thing she didn't write because she was busy writing fantastic beasts and that detective novel
okay
Her names on it, if she gave two shits about the franchise at all she wouldn't have let it be published.
Well played dullest-franchise user.
She oversees everything that get published in the HP world. The fact that she let that drivel go through and become cannon just shows that she can't be fucked with Harry Potter any ore and is just using it as a cash cow until it dries up completely.
she is the neverending gorillion dollar chicken that will keep on shitting really expensive eggs that all the young and young adults will keep buying without question for the next couple of decades.
They don't need to spend a quarter billion on advertising a HP movie though.
>Suicide Squad: Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie playing iconic characters | budget: 175 million | BO: 745 million
>Batman vs Superman: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Amy Adams playing iconic characters | budget: 250 million | BO: 872 million
>Fantastic Beasts: Unknown cast playing unknown characters | budget: 180 million | BO: 805 million
I don't think so, cuk. Pretty obvious FB made more bang for its buck and yet it's only a spin-off.
I, and the experts, agree:
>"Nerd culture is the product of a late capitalist conspiracy, designed to infantalize the consumer as a means of non-aggressive control."
- Simon Pegg
>"The movies are for children but they don't want to admit it. There's a small group of fans that do not like comic sidekicks. They want the films to be tough like The Terminator and they get very upset and opinionated about anything that has anything to do with being childlike."
- George Lucas
>"SW ate the heart and the soul of Hollywood. It created the big-budget comic book mentality."
- P. Schrader
>"A 12yo boy told me proudly that he had seen SW over a 100 times? I said 'could you promise never to see it again?' He burst into tears. I just hope the lad, now in his 30s, isn't living in a fantasy world of secondhand childish banalities"
- Alec Guinness
>"I don't think they are making [comic book movies] an elevated art form, I think it's still just Batman running around in a stupid cape. It's for kids, it's adolescent in its core."
- David Cronenberg
>"I don't want to see or make films about super heroes that fly around in spandex and a cape solving the problems of the world. I think it's fine for children, children of all ages by the way, but it's not for me."
- W. Friedkin
>“They have been poison, this cultural genocide, Because the audience is so overexposed to plot and explosions and shit that doesn’t mean nothing about the experience of being human.”
- A. Iñárritu
>"Superman makes me vomit, Batman and all of that. That whole empire, this religion... It is so important that superheroes suffer... I don't give a damn, I shit on the United States."
- A. Jodorowsky
>"To my mind, this embracing of what were unambiguously children's characters at their mid-20th century inception seems to indicate a retreat from the admittedly overwhelming complexities of modern existence"
- Alan Moore
holy fuck stop posting anytime, this contrarian bullshit is ruining this board
jk has made billions for WB with the harry potter franchise. it helped that 1st one was a critical and commercial success, allowing for a mostly hands off approach with the sequels.
the dc experiment has yet to prove itself. it was pretty clear there were problems even before MoS came out, making WB paranoid
Hypocrite
Hypocrite
Aight
Was in a ton of schlock
Not very good anymore director
Hack director
Pretentious hack director
Anticapitalist madman
Hypocrite
Objective fact
>S-she's using it as a cash cow!!!
If I got paid millions for every factoid I added to my lore you can bet I wouldnt let that shit go.
But she could've easily let WB handle Fantastic Beasts since they just wanted her permission to make it, she insisted on being the one to write it though.
Not even TFA and Rogue One had a quarter billion marketing budget so don't worry about that
>She didn't write the scripts but she had a final say on what stayed in and what didn't. She cut whatever lines she feel didn't belong.
Bullshit you're so fucking stupid. The scripts were made to work on screen she had no say since her script failed. FB characters are a ripoff as well nice try tho.
And fantastic beasts was dull trash. Really makes you think, no?
the canon itself isn't bad. harry's son having a complex is expected and there are great ideas in there but publishing it in script format when its meant to be seen on stage is a terrible idea.
>The scripts were made to work on screen she had no say since her script failed.
learn english faggot, holy fucking christ calm your autism down
because comic book movies are more for kids than harry potter movies
>most common criticism for Potter series is literally 'dullest'
there are plenty more valid criticisms, you're just too stupid to figure them out.
>not knowing memes
how is your first hour on Sup Forums going?
That's english though
