Looking for recs on French movies. Recently started learning the language and figured watching some movies oughta help.
I've looked for lists on the net but it feels kind of hit and miss, since a lot of the listed movies seem to fall into the shittiest strata of vanguardist behaviour. So far I've seen:
>Pierrot le fou A good movie, but at times taking too far the po-mo shtick. Most of the references feel shoehorned as an attempt to gain street-cred with the cool kids. Interesting nonetheless, and very pleasing to the eye.
>Lola Montés Got me bored a third through. Nothing of interest was happening, and the photography in itself wasn't good enough to keep me enthralled.
>La passion de Jeanne d'Arc Amazing in every possible way; definitely got ahold a place as one of my favourite pics ever... but unfortunately silent, so not of much help with the language.
>Les quatre cents coups Rich storyline, good dialogue, and pacing. A great movie.
For whatever it's worth, these are some of favourite movies: >2001, Andrei Rublev, Midnight Cowboy, Barry Lyndon, Aguirre der Zorn Gottes, Apocalypse now, Lawrence of Arabia, Dersu Uzala, and The Human Condition.
Nothing too fancy certainly, but perhaps it can serve as a lead to get a rec for something in French. Thanks in advance.

He's right, La Haine is shit, I don't understand how you don't consider the entriest of entry level flicks pleb or pseud. Actually I do, you consider yourself a "patrician" but you like stupid, vapid shit like La Haine so you try to rationalize your plebness so as not to lose your perception of yourself as a cultured dude. Liam Garcia
Nobody has these has favorite movies, they're great movies because they're technical or writing achievements and you study them in cinema school or something but anyone that says it's their favorite movies is just pretentious, these movies are not enjoyable to watch (maybe 2001 or Lawrence but Andrei Rublev? Come on.)
Grayson Brown
>but anyone that says it's their favorite movies is just pretentious, these movies are not enjoyable to watch Classic Sup Forums babby and his pleb insecurities
