You left out the war. Rhodesia was constantly harassed by communist rebels, and did not receive any help because the media portrayed them as racist, even though they were actually more egalitarian than SA.

the UK pressured them to constantly allow niggers to vote, and the only allies Rhodesia had was South Africa, and another African nation. However, both of those African nations ended up having to withdraw support, due to troubles at home, the west completely abandoned Rhodesia, and the USSR and China kept funding the various communist rebels, who eventually got into power (Mugabe), drove out the whites and then killed off the rival commies.

Americans are obsessed with it, I know that much. My father was in the Rhodesian Light Infantry and was, for a time, head of the Regimental Association. He said that if the amount of Americans who claimed to serve in Rhodesia actually did, they'd have had enough men to rival a Soviet Shock Army.
He used to get angry emails from Americans claiming all sorts of things about how they wanted to "go back" (as if they had ever been in the first place) there to make it white again.
Essentially it was a farming country that lost a war and was well past its sell by date. It would have been a lot better if it were left alone, but it wasn't. Now Americans are completely obsessed with the place.

I find it funny that those same whiny white men were the only thing that saved thousands of portuguese and spanish lives that lived in the colonies. A lot of them weren't fighting because they wanted to, the HAD to whilst serving under a corrupt as fuck government. When the government got what they wanted out of the war, they started cutting food and water logistics and forced the battalions closer to home. If they were given full support by the government and not halted by corruption and petty deals, then southern africa would border with egypt.

Rhodesia unilaterally declared independence from the UK in 1965. It operated a restricted franchise (based upon satisfaction of certain educational/financial criteria), the terms of which essentially barred the overwhelming majority of the black population from possessing the vote.
It never received the recognition of another state - although South Africa and Portugal did lend limited support. Caught up in a lengthy conflict (the Bush War) with communist-backed rebel groups, the government was eventually forced to reach an internal settlement with moderate, non-violent nationalist campaigners. A power-sharing settlement led to the introduction of universal, unqualified suffrage, although the terms of this agreement were not satisfactory to Great Britain.
After further wrangling, full majority rule was introduced - alongside internationally-recognised independence - in 1980. A former rebel leader, Mr Mugabe, triumphed in its inaugural elections, and the rest is history.
