You are right. A guy that worked as hard as Cr7 in the time of Pele would be considered the absolute GOAT. Meanwhile, memes that only relied on talent and had no brains, like Maradona and Best, would be Ballotelli tier nowadays

Pele worked harder than CR7 man, he was also better at him in every aspect.

>A guy that worked as hard as Cr7 in the time of Pele would be considered the absolute GOAT
lmao he would have been killed in the time of pele

why? look at pele's highlights. all he does is kicking the ball forward and getting by defenders thanks to speed. CR7 would absolutely destroy that era, and I'm not his biggest fan

>all he does is kicking the ball forward
>this is how spaniards actually see the game
wow

Spain gets upset when the ball isn't passed sideways/backwards at least 14 times before going forward

>a canadian saying something

I mean a self-assist you dumb faggots
when ronnie does it it's because "he lacks techniques"
when pele does it it's because he's the GOAT
look at your flags and stick to hockey and handegg, stop embarrassing the whole world every time you want to be the cosmopolitan hipster

>cr7 scores a goal
>makes shitty celebration telling stadium to shut up
>rival player kicks his knee in
>cr7 career ends
this diva faggot wouldn't last in that era, most defenders back then didn't even know how to kick a ball

oh yes the mythical old players made from adamantium
puskas wouldn't last 5 minutes in the modern game if he had to run back and forth at the speed the game is played today
it's shit like this, people thinking past players were some kind of superheroes or something

Of course. Pelé is the literal GOAT because how much ahead of his time he was.

I think meant people would kill him because he's a flaming faggot

you don't need to be gifted to have the stamina necessary to play football. Literally any healthy adult male under 30 can be conditioned to jog & sprint for 90 minutes, this isn't what makes a good football player. Also, the marathon world record only lowered about 8 minutes since the 60s. It took over 50 years from the breaking of that barrier for some white guy with modern shoes and training to finally run the 100m sprint in under 10 seconds. The people who were athletic then would be athletic now.

There weren't even red cards in Pelé's time. Pitches were shit. Balls were heavier IIRC.

Maradona is the GOAT though.

this
you can easily find the video on youtube of the 1990 World Cup opening game, Argentina vs Cameroon. please, see how Cameroon defenders tackled Maradona and caniggia. This is not possible nowadays.

>Also, the marathon world record only lowered about 8 minutes since the 60s.
Which is about an 8% reduction.

That's pretty much the difference between men vs women in certain sports and close to the difference of men vs women in most other sports.

This. Nowdays there's much more athlete's competing, meaning more likely some genetic freaks are found. The training methods and facilities have leaped drastically during the decades.
>Hurrr durrrr. The pre-modern era athletes were superior.

Messi is way better

He does what Maradona did but is more consistent and does it at higher speed. Maradona was probably more fun to watch tho, his technique was beautiful and had a perfect ball control. The difference is that back then football was slower

It's difficult to compare across eras, though. Modern athletes that played decades ago wouldn't be as good as they are now without modern training techniques, dietary knowledge, recovery methods, etc.

Because they can't have their own opinions.

They played at a time when you'd break your neck and keep playing, kicking a heavy fucking ball on dogshit pitches
The players today are so protected comparatively, Ronaldo would get the shit kicked out of him and his hissyfit would bring a laugh from the ref

Food on average was way better in the past though.

Those athletes never had the joy of a big mac.

This is fucking retarded. If you put one of these great players from old days in this era they would be even better because back then they didn't have all the training facilities, sports wear, trained professionals like nutritionists and doctors or enhancing drugs modern players have and relied only on skill.

It's a no brainer you retards

They smoked because it was good for you back then though. And food was healthy but only to some degree, it's not about healthy it's about knowing what kind of food you need to eat at different moments of the day and things like that.

I know for a fact that Jake Lamotta (boxer 40-50s) was already counting carbs.
It's written in his biography, they already knew a lot about nutrition back then.

But not the same knowledge we have nowadays, also drugs are way more potent today.

Rodrigo Bentancur arrived at Juventus 3 months ago and he said he gained 5kg of muscle, how ridiculous is that? it's not that he was playing with his friends in the park he was playing for Boca since he's 17, he's a trained player competing in a league where you can't have the ball more than 3 seconds or you're getting your knees shattered and where teams like Boca get even more aggressions. How does he gain 5kg in 3 months? either european water has miraculous properties or top clubs have some magic potion tier juice.

>3 months ago and he said he gained 5kg of muscle, how ridiculous is that?
Could already be done with pre 70s steroids, wrestling already had heavy steroid use in the 50s.

The only difference between modern and vintage steroids is that it's harder to detect these days (also thanks to microdosing), potency is the same mostly.
Soccer barely has any drug testing so players quickly gaining muscle isn't special.

If he was a Soviet wrestler in the 50s he'd have been loaded with steroids too.

Yeah but it's just one factor, you add it to every other advantage athletes have nowadays and the difference is simply huge. It's just a matter of looking at modern players bodies compared to old ones, they're machines.

...

>It's just a matter of looking at modern players bodies compared to old ones
More factors than just just nutrition and whatnot.

Marathon runners for example have become smaller and skinnier than they were 100 years ago.

Also comparing Pele and Nerman, Pelé is clearly more muscular.

Dude looks like an early 20th century bodybuilder.
