...

last bump

where do yyou make these grids

bighugelabs.com/mosaic.php

i like your taste. what are top left and the one below it?

middle left is cache (haneke)

made this last year on MSpaint before i knew about this site.

Mother fuckers if you don't write the name of the movies on the 3x3 how are we supposed to know all the movies you're showing. FUCK.

am i gonna make it, Sup Forums?

yes

by having watched them. or asking.

B honest

nice

something isn't right here

why inland empire?

I put it there because its one of my favorite films

Being less of a dick, I think Dern's performance is one of the greatest ever, and the film overall has a unique, unusual, and beautiful way of stirring a really wide emotional range.

...

...

Watch the Ed Edd N Eddy movie if you've never seen it

whats the kino in the top left

oh, i really like it too but its nowhere near my favorite from him

for me, IE>TSS>MD>TEM>Eraserhead>BV>LH>WaH

have not seen the twin peaks film

...

lol what the fuck

Nigga, you just mix up Cross of Iron with the Dirty Dozen?

y haven't u?
i'd probably put blue velvet before anything else, then twin peaks

why wild at heart last?

sorta default since I'm totally neutral to it.

and as far as FWWM, a friend keeps saying we're gonna have a lynch marathon and watch it before S3 of TP, just gotta get him off his ass and do it

how close am I? What's the next step?

...

to elaborate on this, I actually want to know what the "next step" is, besides just watching films on charts.

Breathless for example. Wouldn't it be so easy for a newbie to think there was some kind of artistic purpose behind the jump cuts (and maybe to some extent there was) rather than them being a convenient way to trim down the run-time on a low-budget film? There's so much, um, intertextuality here. Appreciating (and even better--enjoying) some films seems to require some basic knowledge of where they sit in history--the movement they were part of, what cinema was like in their era, who they were responding to, etc.

Continuing on this Breathless example, wikipedia tells me that many of the French New Wave directors were reacting to what they thought were boring, stuffy films that didn't really express anything about being alive, so they sought to capture a "moment". So how am I supposed to appreciate French New Wave (insofar as they did capture a "moment") if I haven't bored myself to death by their predecessors? What do?

bumping for an answer to my question(s)

Inland Empire is my favorite Lynch as well. Twin Peaks and its movie are also fantastic

What I've enjoyed lately

titles on top mid and mid left?

>Kar Wai interests me

same as you that sequence is some of the best visuals put to film. cant believe it was done in 1947
American Pop chronicles music from 1900-1980 in cartoon form kind of goes to shit after the 1940's bit its still a great movie visually

Is it awful for me to have 3 wanky whys in my grid

nah it's just that almost everyone tries to keep the charts at one per director

...

bump

i bumped yo mama

Bumpy Johnson. I made a new one

>Modernity is the transitory, the fugitive, the contingent, which make up one half of art, the other being the eternal and the immutable. This transitory fugitive element, which is constantly changing, must not be despised or neglected. - Baudelaire

You can apreciate the eternity part without knowing much about the modernity part. A lot of FNW stuff are still different from today because even though it helped change cinema, filmmakers that would be inspired by them wouldn't go as far as the FNW did.
