Well, its goal was clearly to put as many fucking ridiculous things into a movie and play it straight as possible. It did a very good job at doing what it was trying to do. And what it was trying to do simply doesn't have broad appeal.

I don't think the script was shit. If you think any of the dialogue was bad or cringey, try watching it through the perspective of the unloved, below average intelligence guy who believes himself to be an intellectual based on his manner of speech.

He does his best to try to explain the world to Manny, but does mostly a shitty job because he is trying to figure out what the world means to himself.
