Napoli have officially confirmed that Faouzi Ghoulam suffered “a total rupture of his right anterior cruciate ligament”.
The left-back went off injured during last night’s loss to Manchester City, with the Algerian seen in visible discomfort while rubbing his knee.
It was immediately feared that he had suffered an ACL injury, something which reports this morning appeared to confirm.
“This morning Faouzi Ghoulam visited professor [Pierpaolo] Mariani [a noted knee specialist] at Villa Stuart,” a statement on the Partenopei’s website confirmed.
“The Azzurro defender was subjected to clinical examinations which reveal a total rupture of his right anterior cruciate ligament.
“Ghoulam will be operated on in the morning.”
A cruciate ligament injury usually requires at least four months on the sidelines

You can walk after a while, but you always have to be conscious of putting too much weight on the leg, or walking with your centre of gravity over the vertical plane, as the ACL (amongst other things) sort of prevents the tips of the femur and tibia from touching behind the patella, so any real compression (i.e. taking stairs two at a time) would really fuck you up.

Ingredients for 5/6
50 gr. rolled bacon
200 gr. minced beef
200 gr. minced pork
1 carrot, 1 onion
1 celery stalk
2 ladles of meat or vegetable broth
1 tablespoon tomato puree
1 glass of red wine
butter
salt-pepper
200 ml tomato sauce
Preparation
Finely chop the carrot, celery and onion.
In a pan, melt a knob of butter and add the vegetables and the minced bacon. Cook, stirring, for about 10 minutes.
Add the minced meat and brown for a few minutes. When the meat ha taken color, blur with the wine and let it evaporate. When the wine is completely evaporated, add the tomato sauce, the tomato puree and a dipper of boiling broth.
Cook for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, stirring and adding boiling broth if the meat sauce were too dry. Add salt and pepper only at the end. The meat sauce must be sufficiently thick.
