to be honest the USA does have a good junior development program, hence their recent success at the ivan hlinka, u 18, and world juniors
having said that, they seem to lack the ability to create superstar players, aside from the occasional modano or kane. maybe that will change with mattews and the new generation.

The US won one game, one time against the Soviets. Other than the USSR, no country was sending their best. This was a B tournament and it happened 37 years ago. That said, the US has fielded some very strong junior teams recently and we'll see whether the talent that accumulates at the senior level will be enough to finally accomplish something worth remembering.
