Part of her problem was that she didn't really acted in a way to actually improve her situation. She was in part in permanent conflict with her ideals and in part she was plain self-destructive, maybe because she in a way didn't think she deserved better. It's common for people with low self-esteem.

The images are poor quality, but I don't think she was ugly either by real world standards. It's weird though, whenever I watch that footage of her my opinion kind of oscillates. Still, certainly not ugly enough to die a virgin.
