I don't like how 2 retconned some key plot points in 1 but the romantic tension between him and Mona is THE best thing ever written in a videogame.
There's other stuff that's really good too though, especially Vlad's betrayal, even worse the way he manipulated that female cop, and to really drive home how fucked up it all was is that her blind son has to grow up alone thanks to you.

Well GTA V had a lot of pop culture easter eggs but they were kind of dumb and in your face. For example the aliens look like the aliens from Alien, you can see the No Country for Old Men pickups parked somewhere, stuff like that.

Videogames cost so much these days that they don't really have time or money to "waste" in hidden content. There's also the fact modern games are made for reviewers to limit the risks (because high scores=more sales) so everything must be shown at the first walkthrough since most reviewers don't have the time to play the same game twice.
The industry has changed a lot since the AAA format appeared in the late 2000's.

I know a lot of people dislike Alan Wake, but I really loved it. Great game to play at 3am when you have insomnia. Headphones also necessary. It's creepy as hell when you're running through the forest and you can hear enemy footsteps behind you, breaking twigs and stuff.
