Croats and Bosniaks killed a bunch of Serbs. Serbs wanted to return the favor. I believe that was actually the main motivator during the Yugoslav Civil Wars. JNA could have steam rolled all of Yugoslavia with ease, yet besieged Sarajevo and Vukovar for months just so that they could purify the region from the non-Serbs as much as possible. Can't say I blame them though.

That's why Kingdom of Yugoslavia was a superior state compared to the Socialist one. Socialist Yugoslavia was doomed from the get go. Serbia was partitioned (Macedonia was then part of Serbia, yet proclaimed a Republic in Socialist Yugoslavia), Vojvodina and Kosovo gained the status of Autonomous Provinces, many Serbs that were ethnically cleansed during the WW2 from Kosovo and Macedonia couldn't remove due to nonsensical Brotherhood and Unity policy that was being employed, all with an actual intent to further destabilize marginalize Serbia, which in the end it did and made it the weakest of the Republics. All in all, I'm glad that we are no longer under the Croatian rule and finally free. As for former territories, we'll reclaim when the time is right. Right now we gotta play the democracy game.

Slovenia only benefited when it unified with Yugoslavia, otherwise you would have probably been annexed by either Italy or somebody else. I mean you aren't really Slavic, mostly assimilated (Germanized) "Slavs"

France, Britain and Russia existed long before nationalism. Romania had a united religion and alphabet. Germans found some historic unity in the HRE and German Confederation and Italians were Romans. Though none of them were ever invaded and told one half of the population is made up of Goths.

He may have written similar languages but I'd word it as languages belonging to the same branch of the Slavic language family, and good luck with that. Even dialects inside our language have varying degrees of mutual intelligibility, not to mention Macedonian which is basically on the opposite side of the South Slavic dialect continuum.
There is no unified South Slavic nation, just like there is no unified South Slavic language.
