tfw they didn't have lunch
I knew it was a family drama going in, but nothing else. Watching this during a serious case of hangover anxiety, and just regular being miserable was a bad, bad move.
Now I need to drink again. And give Affleck the Oscar right now. I'm not even gonna watch Fences.
I had no idea what it was about at all. I'm man enough to edit I got a Lil choked up at the fire scene and the scene in the police department
To admit*
The scene in the police department would be 10/10 if there wasn't that classical score blaring over it.
The scene itself delivers all the impact needed through the performances and framing alone, while the score just takes the viewer away from the reality of the moment and ruins the immersion.
Glad the rest of the film doesn’t have that problem, certified kino indeed.
Fuck, I felt like I was on the verge of shedding a few tears for just about the whole thing. But like I said I was already in an sad and mopey mood going in. Thankfully the dry humor throughout the movie helped.
the bits of humor in this film are so cathartic. I love it.
Why is moonlight getting more praise than this? That movie was about nothing
This, I noticed the score and it felt like the film was shouting "THIS IS AN EMOTIONAL SCENE!"
>I just want for you to be happy..
Lee pls my heart is already in a thousand pieces
take a shot everytime Casey says: "okay thanks"
The scene in the OP is so, so good.
t. nu-male
And this one was about something?
The scene between Michelle Williams and Affleck alone should win an Oscar.
she was really great
or "up to you"
Casey sexually abused a woman fuck him
I know the word is overused, but that scene is devastating. I almost felt guilty watching it, as if I were intruding on someone else's privacy, you know?
You people disgust me, the worst kind.
It was just an allegation, not one clear evidence shown.
But today it doesn't even matter did someone commit rape/sexual assault or not, it's enough to put him in court and that's it, for the rest of his life there will be people who think he actually did it no matter what evidence there is or isn't.
Casey has some luck because he is a famous actor, but if he was just an average Joe his whole social and work life is over at that point, just one newspaper title like "user on trial for rape" is all what it takes to ruin one man's life.
There is a reason the "not guilty until proven" system exists.
Go watch The Hunt to learn a lesson or two about not talking shit with no actual information
Been listening to this all day since watching it
youtube.com
it makes me feel like a piece of shit
please end your miserable life
>You can't just die
hit me hard.
Anybody got the police department scene wojack?
Honestly I don't get why so many people here love this movie, hell some of the posts here just scream shill especially the ones who say Michelle Williams was good when she was barely present and played the most cliche sob story female character ever.
Like honestly the whole scene with them was so fucking boorish and drew barely any emotion, Williams felt like she was phoning it in.
But even outside of that scene the entire movie just felt like a mess. All of the side scenes that were supposed to develop Patrick's character kept going on and on with no changes outside of a few key scenes like the freezer. Who gives a shit about his stupid fucking band and the dumb MILF? Who gives a shit about those two whores he's banging? Like he just continues his life after the freezer scene with barely any other signs of grief or personal agony especially even in the sex scenes, it felt super unrealistic. Outside of that what the fuck happened with Patrick's mom and the abuse fiancee? They bring this shit up and show a conflict that could continue to develop Patrick's character and just end it when it was one of the only interesting parts of Patrick's development and his connection to family, it was so fucking stupid.
This entire movie just feels like a cliche soap with the edge meter set to 11 while the movies end it super unsatisfactory and basically half asses every subplot while it could've used the time to better develop Affleck's character and the nephew. Moonlight deserves to win over this as does Silence if it's been nominated or not.
Yep, but too many white people so it can't win anymore
List just one scene in the movie which was "cliche"
Both of the bar fight scenes
The final music is from Massenet's Cherubin. The translation of the whole aria (though only the first line or two is sung) is below. That gave some hope that Lee can and will love, despite the hopelessness you feel for him.
"When you have nothing to do, summon me quickly next to you
The paradise that I prefer, It's a cushion at your knees.
You will hardly notice me, I will not speak ...
And I will hold my breath, If my breath can disturb you.
So that in my gloomy heart, Winter makes way for spring.
I ask very little: A smile from time to time.
And if it's too much a look will suffice to transform me.
For without saying anything I love you
As much as a being can love"
>that slut 'spilling' her drink on him and him not reciprocating her advances
too close to home fàm
>Why is moonlight getting more praise than this?
You know why.
Oh I forgot about that, I actually agree that those scenes were a bit cliche
I think the writer was trying to find a way how to show him letting it all out on someone because he can't just keep it all inside of him through the whole movie, so that was the only "in character" thing he could come up with.
As for the rest of your last post, you wanted all of those sub and side plots to be closed off with an obvious long term changing effect on the character which would've made everything cliche.
I don't believe a woman has ever hit on you.
> gets more recognition
> tv calls it overrated
Fuck hollywood. Someone needs to step up and call them out on their hypocrisy.
Based Casey proved he was the superior Affleck here. It'd be a crime if they gave the Oscar to Denzel "The Ham" Washington.
...
>you wanted all of those sub and side plots to be closed off with an obvious long term changing effect on the character which would've made everything cliche
I mean closed off in a mental way and not half baked in which they're never truly concluded in the characters mind, like when the fiancee to Patrick's mom emails that he'd message him for now on instead the movie just kinda went "so that happened" and that was it. It does a lot of dramatic shit but never hits it home outside the police station and freezer scenes, if they focused more on those I feel like the movie would've been far better.
>That movie was about nothing
Did you even watch the movie?
Why do people think this mumbling idiot is a good actor?
>think the writer was trying to find a way how to show him letting it all out on someone because he can't just keep it all inside of him through the whole movie
I don't think that's what those scenes were about. He hates himself. Anyone that knows hate, whether inward or outward, knows that you wish the worst upon the object of your hate. In his case, he wanted punishment and to suffer. This is alluded to in the police station scene were he looks so distraught that he won't receive any kind of punishment and why nearly commits sudoku.
Because there is zero "I'M ACTING" in most of his performances, this one especially.
>MBTS was the best movie of this ye-
Margaret would be superior in every way had it not been fucked over.
Not even the extended cut fixes it.
. It's dark, tragically, honest, beautiful, and incredibly funny at times - just like life.
But his salvation will come with a spare room....
Casey Affleck for Oscar glory... Sorry Ryan.
>Using ellipses unironically
Go back to rotten tomatoes shill
this movie was about as good as boyhood
The hypocrisy of what? They're both great movies that have been recognized as such and either way La La Land is going to sweep everything, why do you care?
So Boyhood is really good?
You might wanna watch Fences, so you won't burn your house when Denzel wins.
>Why is moonlight getting more praise than this?
Because that movie actually meant something.
What did it mean?
This movie has no depth at all, neither in the storyline or the characters. It's a melodrama, and the 5 min long scene with blaring sad classical music is a great example of it. 2+ hours of the director bluntly using every trick in the book trying to force an emotional reaction from the viewer while completely neglecting the foundation of any movie: The story and the characters. The plebeian will fall for this primitive and dishonest strategy, but any true connoisseur will look right through the charade.
>b-but at least the acting is good?
"No!". Are you guys deliberately being dishonest? Because looking at the ground for 2 hours while only displaying a single emotion certainly doesn't impress me.
Now stop making threads about this pleb pleaser on my /tv.
This whole pasta is so pathetic.
>my teevee
lmao
>that phone call of each other asking how they are doing 100 times repeatedly
I don't know if that was intentional but it was pretty sad desu
>entire cast is white
>main actor is a literal rapist
Slightly better
Pointlesskino.
>Glad the rest of the film doesn’t have that problem, certified kino indeed.
Has the same problem when they're removing the bodies from the house. Film's too overproduced at some key points, but is otherwise perfect.
...
That was an open hand to the face, Manchester was like a kick to the stomach. I really liked both though.
Rape is a social construct
It's great.
