A CURE FOR WELLNESS is one of the most daring (even if the choices don't always land the best) and original pieces of American cinema I've seen come out from the major studios sphere. Similar to CRIMSON PEAK, the film will most likely flop and then Hollywood will only be reinvigorated to continue pumping out more Batman vs Superman films that play the formula safe. We complain and say we ant films that are more original like CURE and CRIMSON, yet don't give these films a chance.

I believe one of the biggest reasons this film is getting negative reviews is due to the nature and tone; audiences and critics going in with feelings and expectations that don't match the actual nature of the movie's real hybrid-genre - body horror, gothic horror, fairytale, and elements of sci-fi.

The set design, wardrobe, cinematography, casting, and "world" crafted in the film were breathtaking, the closest we'll ever get to a BIOSHOCK film IMO regarding tone and atmosphere. Dane Dehaan seriously is aiming to be one of generation's greats, and Mia Goth's character I felt actually was layered and didn't fall into the similar tropes.

So even though I really enjoyed the film, I have no problem admitting the film has some severe faults that deters it from being PHENOMENAL (it's a great film, not falls flat due to some weird choices). I feel as though there were some edits in the 2nd Act that could've been tighter and helped with context, and the 3rd Act asks to audience to suspend their disbelief in such a a huge jump compared to the rest of the film, which is frustrating because I believe with a few re-edited scenes and moments, it could've flowed much better.

Also, many critics and viewers complaining about the "plot holes" and being left with tons of questions need to chill.

I enjoyed this film too

Ok I think I will go out tonight to see this movie.

ok

S H I L L T H R E A D

So it's a remake of Shutter Island with eel water?

Much better than that

Fuck off it was awful.

>Also, many critics and viewers complaining about the "plot holes" and being left with tons of questions need to chill.

So it's another style over substance nothing burger like Prometheus, and the only response they have it "just don't think about it".

Literally Bioshock: The movie

>HURR BUT THE PLOT HOLES
Even amoung other nerds you people aren't cool

>Crimsonshit was original
>Bioshock film
>Dane Dehaan seriously is aiming to be one of generation's greats
gb2/v/, pleb

>tfw no eyebrow-fu

>audiences and critics going in with feelings and expectations that don't match the actual nature of the movie's real hybrid-genre - body horror, gothic horror, fairytale, and elements of sci-fi.
How was it marketed? I don't remember any trailers.

As a 2deep4u arthouse.

So there is no more eel water, so everyone dies, correct?

I'm patiently waiting for screener

Fuck off shill

Someone spoil it for me

I'm seeing this tonight, how should I feel going in?

Frankenstein incest using immortal eel water. His leg isn't broken.

negative

Crimson Peak was fine...it was just poorly advertised

This film looks okay but I havent seen it.
But I'd hardly call "Batman vs Superman" playing it safe

>Frankenstein incest using immortal eel water. His leg isn't broken.

immortal eel water almost sounds interesting enough to read the wiki, idk tho

>A CURE FOR WELLNESS
god, that fucking title... so stupid lol

user left out Phantom of the Opera allusions. It is a mess.

I regret reading the wiki

I want that time back

Pretty shit.
Should have been marketed as an off beat horror, instead of art crap.

Every review I see pretty much states 'It's not a very good film and doesn't make much sense, but it's the BEST HORROR FILM EVER, CHANGED THE GAME, REVOLUTIONARY!'.

It's The WWitch all over again. Every fucking critic is desperate to be the one that was there when horror kino was born. To the point they're swallowing down any old half-baked nonsense and giving it a feee pass because it's well shot and made by someone lofty.

>one of the most daring and original pieces of American cinema I've seen

how is hostel-with-the-pretentiousness-turned-up-to-11 anything approaching daring or original

There are some unclear implications that go nowhere, but only thing I found seriously unexplained is why drinking the magic water (toxic to humans) and being pumped with eels to purify that water to stop being toxic to humans made all those old people want to stay in the sanatorium. For the protagonist he might have been kind mindbroken based on some guilt he felt in relation to his father's suicide, but it's weird to think every old person in the sanatorium had similar circumstances.

I had interest in this film, but if you're saying it's similar to the rancid shit stain that is CRIMSON PEAK, I'll save my money.

I am curious.

How does one go about getting "pumped with eels", apart from a method that would be considered Japanese porn

Plastic tube down the throat.

Saw a trailer for this that gave away pretty much the whole story.
>whooooa, this isn't a NORMAL facility! They're using WEIRD SCIENCE STUFF to make all the people stay! Now they're trying to give the main character weird drugs to stay as well! WHOOOOAAAA! DREAM SEQUENCE

go be a tool somewhere else
