They're marginally better than Dark Matter in the coveted 18-49 demographic, but Dark Matter has better figures overall. And it's important to remember that Dark Matter is cheap as fuck in comparison to the Expanse.

Dark Matter is also technically a Canadian show that SyFy simply pays to broadcast, whereas The Expanse is a SyFy original. Now to be fair SyFy probably pays most of the budget for Dark Matter and The Expanse is made by an independent production company, but this doesn't change the fact that The Expanse is much more costly for SyFy than Dark Matter.

Thing is, it got picked up by netflix, so there's some sweet syndication dollars there. Netflix can afford to finance a more niche show.

Dark Matter is dumb as fuck and the most convincing villains are Wil Wheaton and a qt space samurai but I still like it a lot.

I think this show is great but it's better to bingewatch than watch week to week, especially if you're not a bookfag
