It would still have electoral college votes proportional to it's population. Overall the Republicans might gain... 3 extra electoral votes by that scheme. Even just Puerto Rico would have around 5-6 if it was admitted into the union. Dumb idea.

Ah, didn't think about the senators - good point. The electoral votes would only be marginally more, Tennessee would lose some and East Tennessee would gain a few extra. Again, just based on the population in those areas it would probably give the Repubs 3 or MAYBE 4 extra electoral votes. Puerto Rico, based on its population, would probably get something like 5 electoral votes. It wouldn't be a good deal for the Repubs, although the senator thing is a really good point.
