>Joel barely visible in the back

Well thanks for ruining something else from my childhood liberals.

She was preggers when they shot the season.

Everyone on the old series except Mike was a liberal. Read Frank's Twitter sometime.

>Read Frank's Twitter
Lets not. Mike is the only one who's still telling jokes/ not talking about politics

What's the point of bringing back MST3K if none of the cast is returning other than Joel (who won't be the host)? Just make a new show where you make fun of movies. Or just make a new show.

Come up with something original? What are you crazy?

OJ Simpson was a cooler wifekiller than Patton Oswalt. Just sayin

It's more expensive to create a new franchise from scratch than to reinvent/reboot an old one.

Yes, talented people do cost more than hacks.

>Everyone on the old series except Mike was a liberal.
But they rarely ever made ideological jokes.

>Patton oscuck
>Joe camel
>other literal whos

Hmm, no thx

>Trump Jokes & Feminism Theater Current Year

>its a tom servo starts yelling about how he can't get a date

Because it used to be about comedy

>Patton Oswald
>Felicia Day
>bunch of faggots
God damn it. You're going to besmirch the good name of mst3k. Now I'm going to have to start specifying when I discuss it.

>join wife
I cant breathe right now

"Gamergate!"
"Trump!"
"Mansplaining!"

Would interesting if they did modern movies - BvS. Marvel movies, cape shit.

Joel era did beat the "being white is so great!" drum pretty often.

You're projecting.

Thats called Rifftrax

... no, joel really did use some variation of the "its so great to be white and male!" joke pretty often.

>patton looks like he should be dead
They all do.

at least to me

Unironically?

Tounge in cheek

Joel left mst3k back in the day because he wanted to branch out and do something different.
After the show ended, Mike and the gang recognized their niche and went on to make Riftrax, since they knew they were good at it and knew there was a market for that sort of comedy.
So fast forward to today and they've made wheelbarrows of cash and had a great time doing it, while Joel has been sitting around choking on his pride, unable to get past his early success.
Finally, Joel comes to terms with that fact and accepts his niche, boarding the nostalgia train and making the new mst3k. The usual suspects are there to welcome him into the fold: a crowd funded campaign, and Geek Cultureā„¢ staples Felicia Day, Patton Oswald. The humor will be snarky but safe and the cast laudably Diverse.
Joel is going to make mint and while he's counting his patron dollars, he'll wonder why it took him so long to settle.

... no? He wasn't saying it about himself, he was jabbing at dated gender/racial relations in old movies.

Interesting. If in the old black, and white moves I would think that might be making fun of.

I'm enjoying le token black guy.

Yes, that's what I would think.

You're not wrong.

I'm still going to give the new series an honest try but anyone is kidding themselves if they think this wouldn't have been much better with Mike behind the wheel on this.

This just feels like a cash-in on Joel's part. I don't really have confidence he still has the creative skills either since Cinematic Titanic was such a fucking bore.

>Mike is the only one who's still telling jokes/ not talking about politics

Some Rifftrax have recently made a few references to GG/Reddit/MRAs. I chalk it up to the writing staff rather than Mike, Bill, or Kevin actually caring about those things though, and it's easy enough to ignore.

...

>1950s movie comes on
>joel doesnt make joke about 90s blacks not still knowing their place.

It would absolutely be better with Mike but Mike has no reason to want to do it. Rifftrax is making money and they got a sweet deal being able to sell the Mike-era MST3K eps on their site.

...

Fair enough but it still feels wrong.

An MST3K reboot was the ultimate, inevitable cash-in that we all new would happen some day. It just feels like it's in the wrong hands.

But who knows. It could still be good.

>Feminist Felicia Day
>Twitter activist Patton Oswald
>Numale Cuck host
>Diversity Black Man

I smell SJW bullshit.

This. A lot of the movies they watched in the earliest seasons used some variation of the "white explorers/scientists travel to lost world and impart their wisdom on ignorant hut-dwelling savages" model, and Joel had at least one host segment dedicated to spoofing that. When the bots didn't want to play along, he complained that they "had to help him support the 'white male reality'."

They took all kinds of jabs though, maybe more so in the Mike era. Remember when Crow filled up a whole suggestion box just for Japan? I never really saw a political motivation behind any of their jokes though, it always seemed they were just taking the piss. This new one I'm not as confident that's what'll happen.

Someone on the writing staff was an operator because you'd get an occassional gun joke.
>He used too much buckshot here, ruined the meat.

Pretty much. I don't recall anything on old MST3k being intended as serious social or political commentary. Especially anything Crow did; it was made very obvious from the beginning that he was a unrepentant smartass who enjoyed taking the piss out of absolutely anyone and anything.

>ugly camel faced unfunny LOLSO RANDUM IM A NERD XD being anywhere near my mst3k

fuck off

>Patton Oswalt and Camel Faced Bitch

Goddammit WHYYYYYYYY

I never really liked Mike. I always rathered Joel. Joel seemed more like the original formula that worked better. Most of the props created by him. His influence in the creating the show seemed more fitting.

She legit looks photoshopped in. Maybe it's just the weird lighting.

Someone will reply to you and bring up that Mike was the head writer during the Joel era, and they're obviously not wrong, but like you I also preferred Joel. I just think his delivery and overall goofy personality blended really well with the rest of the cast. Plus there were way more oddball, esoteric references during the Joel seasons, it seems like. I always liked those.

>Plus there were way more oddball, esoteric references during the Joel seasons

I would agree. More whimsical maybe? It worked well for me. Just more funny.

Is this some kind of Producers scheme to embezzle Kickstarter bucks?

Why the fuck would they choose the unappealing looking, past,y bloated, pale, sack of nu-male sweat I've ever seen in my life to host the show?

I always liked Mike's delivery and personality more. He felt more natural as a host I guess. I do wish he did as many sight gags as Joel did though, those were the best.
Black Tom Servo already made a joke about how he's overcome years of systematic oppression in the first trailer. I am not confident.

I kinda feel like most people who prefer Mike didn't start watching the show until he had taken over hosting, whereas I started watching it during the early Joel seasons. So for them, they're used to Mike's delivery and his style of humor, and it's jarring to listen to Joel's folksy, monotone delivery. Joel's making obscure references to stuff that happened in the 1950s, meanwhile Mike is referencing Pearl Jam or something (which wasn't too dated of a reference, at the time).

I think Joel's a fine host but the problem is he's not coming back to host and I am concerned about this new cast.

I would agree. That's why I liked Joel better. I know its cliche, but he really did seem like the class clown, the kid in the back of the class making goofy obscure snorky remarks.

This is the least masculine group of men I've seen in days and I went to a meme coffeeshop twice in the last two days

>Joel is going to make mint
Why do you believe this? Didn't his Cinematic Titanic project fail?

I wouldn't say fail, it's just not been as successful as Rifftrax.

Joel's nu-mst3k will do what CT and RT don't: simulate the original experience (bots, SOL, silhouettes). I say simulate, not replicate, because I predict the tone will be very much based on le current year, reddit, nu-male humor. We live in an imperfect world, so that facsimile will probably be good enough to keep the patron bucks flowing. Hence the mint comment.

Joel just always came off as bitter somehow. Like the mirror universe episode from joel era that was clearly prompted by how joel felt mike's writing was too snarky and biting for his style.

>not been as successful as Rifftrax.

Consideirng rifftrax has been nothing but a cascading failure kept active only by how little it costs to keep going, you're saying less than nothing.

I recall old campy movies with dancing, wealthy Greatest Generation folks like I Accuse My Parents getting riffs like Servo singing "we're whiiite, we're whiiiite, we're really really whiiite"
It was funny

>rifftrax has been nothing but a cascading failure
Joel, what are you doing on Sup Forums? They've had numerous successful kickstarters and they do at least two live shows every year. Rifftrax is a big success.

Because the characters are distincitve and great and there's a lot of milage to be made out of the premise.
I'm less opposed to this reboot (technically a continuation, it's officially "season 11") than others because there's just so many bad movies to be MST'd and the entire structure and iconography of the show are irreplaceable and brilliant, there's no way to frame the content better than the show's premise and you can see from the very first KTMA episodes that were released in November that Joel basically had the entire thing figured out from the get-go (EVERY element of the show, from the music to the format to the sets, is there, the only thing that's unpolished is the riffing which they didn't fully crack until season 2). The original cast was disgruntled about the reboot at first because over the years the show had become the creation of a few tight-knit individuals who felt they all had a big piece of making the show what it is, and while that's true, everything you'd actually "need" to adapt a new version of the show from is already there in Joel's $20 handmade pilot. Everybody's come around to accepting the thing anyway after Joel had the chance to talk with them and Kevin and Mary Jo are now writing on it (and tying the story in to the last season by playing Bobo and Pearl, as well as Bill playing Brain Guy)
I just think it's worth a try really, word from screenings has all been good and I trust Joel, he's always been afraid of overt corporatization/executive meddling (a big part of why he was against making the movie) and had the philosophy of "the right people will get it" and I don't think that's changed

The fact they needed any kickstarters at all is a pretty big failure flag.

You're a fucking idiot.

They needed a Kickstarter because Joel was afraid if he went through a TV network they'd fuck with it - the Kickstarter was enormously successful in that it allowed him to make his own unaltered vision for this season and also showed how much interest there was in the show to distribution platforms, which was necessary because of how much has changed since the show left the air and uncertainty that modern audiences would want to watch a 90 minute show. After it killed his phone was off the hook for a month and he ended up scoring a deal with Netflix, arguably the most famous and accessible media distribution platform on the planet. I don't think your thought process is valid

That looks positively fucking terrible. I will stick to Rifftrax.

... you're talking about the mst3k reboot, rifftrax started before crowfunding was really a thing.

The fact that the new MST3K needed a kickstarter at all is a pretty big failure flag.

:^) You're a fucking retard.

I don't know which is worse, this picture or the Han Solo movie picture

They needed those kickstarters to get the rights to riff big blockbuster films in theaters.

are you the tranny that shit posts here?

Fuck no. Why do you think I'm a tranny?

My bad for not reading what the post was quoting, my head made an assumption there, sorry
At any rate, Rifftrax is not a failure, they have too many live events a year to argue that, if they weren't well attended Fathom wouldn't keep broadcasting and promoting them (and they're always well attended when I go)
Sometimes they just need a little help to pony up for the rights to more high-profile movies, which makes sense, getting the rights to something like Twilight probably costs much more than a whole produced MST episode with sets and everything.

How is Rifftrax a failure? Present some facts, don't just say "it sucks!"

nooooooooooo why? why do this? it's just going to devolve into stupid fucking pop culture references and miss the entire feel of mst3k. much like rifftrax. god damn it. might as well get fucking lowtax in on it. fuck.

jesus Patton Oswalt looks dead inside

i'm disappointed with life

cause you used :^) figured you were that dude who cut off his dick and calls himself a vigiaman.

MST3K was always a lot of pop culture references though?
At any rate I'd expect Joel to understand and replicate that comfy feel more than Mike could, and the new guys are all massive fans. Word from screenings is universally highly positive.
We'll see but I won't write it off until I can watch it myself
Frank usually did too

:^) is used by a lot of people redditor

you muse be new here, try swallowing a glock.

wtf is going on with Crow's arms?
When did he get biceps?

I HATE TOM SERVO'S NEW RACE

Mystery Nu-male Theater 1500

Both bots arms are functional now

I thought the same...

I have to watch an episode to recuperate after that

I wish Twitter wasn't a thing so I could be ignorant on what a shitty person Patton Oswald is.

...

God damn this looks horrible...

I wish joel couldve done something that made money so this abomination cash grab didnt need to be done.

He's wanted to do it for years, for reasons having nothing to do with money (iirc he gets a cut of DVD sales which have always been great and he made a nice salary at an aerospace company) - he's always thought it was a sustainable idea that could go on and be recasted forever due to the wealth of riffable material. He just ended up leaving in the mid-90s because Jim Mallon was an asshole, same with Frank and Trace, so he never got the chance to steer the show in that direction.

Fucking dollar store TV's Frank.

I'm re-watching season 2 and 3 right now, Joel does this repeatedly every episode.
Jungle Goddess is a big one.
This shit is why I ended up preferring Mike later on.
The only time it was genuinely funny was Catalina Caper, everywhere else it's been preachy and annoying.

I really like both but Joel talked about being shy and not really TV material and it definitely shows. His timing is weird and he's very lowkey. Mike is a middle ground between high energy Crow and lower energy Servo and both of them treating him like a brother instead of a dad is more interesting
