When Hitler showed himself to be more aggressive than the Soviet Union and actually interested in taking non German territories the Allies began really acting against him. What I am saying is, at the time neither the United Kingdom or France were any aggressive. The UK had even started their decolonization process of sort as with Ireland. They were just sitting on their big pieces of lands without doing much. Germany on the other hand was stirring things up and showing to be completely untrustworthy.
