I rewatched it recently. I agree with you on certain aspects of the drama ("most beautiful thing in the world" is a bad scene) but I still really liked the comedy. It's a good movie.

TFA
Jurassic world
The avengers
>inb4 dcuck
Batman v superman wasn't well to begin with

you're mom aged like shit fag :D

delete the stupid bag floating around scene and this is a timeless classic

I just feel that the whole 'normal suburban life is so dull and meaningless LMAO' thing seems really stale now

It's not about that, it's more about a midlife crisis. The story could have happened in a rural environment as well. Maybe even a city, though not many families live in cities.

even mendes admitted it was pretentious

everything from the 80's

probably the only scene that still holds up. The rest of the movie is a 90s period piece.

with all due respect to Mendes, but he hasn't directed anything worth the filespace since Road to Perdition.

grow up faggot

This is one of the best scenes but I think all the the Spacey/Bening scenes are still great, like the masturbation scene, the dinner scene and this one:

...

I like that scene too. It's actually kind of sad that they were so close to rekindling something and they both destroyed it by being petty.

Crash

i ain't no queer or nothin, but i wouldn't mind spending the night at his house and do some late night experimenting

just like right before bed i suck and get sucked and that's it. maybe even do it again after the whole 'not talk to eachother cause it's awkward' is over but that's fucking it

Everything Hitchcock ever made.

The Mask

that movie was never, ever good

It's actually better. They don't make fun movies anymore. This has raised the value of any fun movies from recent history.

>not many families live in cities

what did he mean by this?

and i've always hated this movie
it didn't deserve to win best picture

>what did he mean by this?
Exactly what I mean you fucking idiot. Unless you were extremely wealthy why would you subject your family to the shit people put you through in a city?

those titties tho

100% agreed

Best movie of 1999 and probably even the 90s. No, now it seems ahead of its time

What would this movie say about the mortgage crisis later?

it would be the same movie except the roles would be reversed.

it didn't age, you did. You watched it when you were in your
>dude, so deep!
phase, then you got older and wiser

The only thing you can get out of this today is a few "omg how did they pull this off in 1941" moments.

It really spoke to the soul of 90s America and the affluenzia problem. A person gets successful and then drifts finding the American dream is holo and soulless.

The reason American Beauty seems so foreign today is because it's a very different world for those of us that entered adult life around the millenium. We are fighting just for all of life's bear minimums, we never will have the "affluenzia" problem of our parents.

This is the reason Fight Club also seems dated, it's because the protagonists have achieved the Amerian dream and found it ultimately ungratifying. We will likely never have half of what they do and have to learn to be content with a quarter of what our parents had.

So it just seems a bit like a spoiled kid tantrumming these days. A modern Veruca Salt as the protagonist. They had the fucking golden goose and still couldn't be content.

Wrong. It's incredible, even today. Only matched by "There will be blood" and maybe "Aviator".

In regards to your Fight club comments. Just be cause the idea of anti-consumerism doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it lost it's meaning today.
>protagonists have achieved the Amerian dream
I was hardly anyone's dream, he was the most average dude you can imagine, he didn't achieve shit.

Jim Carey's Fun With Dick and Janes

The sexual fantasy scenes still retain value

that girl was ugly af

holy shit, this

Remember that movie where Jim Carrey joined a cult and started approving loans to people who were almost certainly going to default on them?

the whole movie came from that one scene

How could you age well if you were born disabled ?

Still like Vertigo though.

Being dissatisfied and depressed whilst being well off has become more difficult to sympathise with maybe but not that much so. It's still good at showing how there are fundamental things people need that success and money can't necessarily buy. It was a meme at the time which has run its course is all.

Watched this for the first time last month. Don't know how I'd missed it because I love 80s action comedies.

I just found it kind of underwhelming. Apparently it was absolutely huge at the time but watching it with fresh eyes today I just don't see anything special about it. I guess this film was just in the right place at the right time.

All movies made before 1980

remember when he went full retard on a talk show and said shit about the illuminati?

watch Midnight Run instead

same director, but it's held up better

The sequel is better IMO. As for the original, it was probably Eddie Murphy charm.
