Why was this movie so sad. I think Casey Affleck's character is like Sup Forums average user. He is sad and bitter inside, and feels like nothing in the world can make him happy anymore. Just like me at least

he is still good looking and could have had easily started over, it's not like his life was over

I deeply indentified with the character of Lee too and found all of his maneurisms, traits and situational interactions completely relatable and familiar.
But the difference is that I've had a pretty easy life so far with nothing tragic happening to me whatsoever, and I doubt any typical Sup Forums user has ever burned 3 of his kids alive.

It's just great writing from Lonergan and Caseys brilliant performance which makes the viewer empathize with his character.

He is responsible for the death of his 3 kids, how can you even imagine it would be easy for him to start over, jesus christ.

Some parents can't live with themselves if their kid dies in a random car crash, let alone them being responsible for their kids death.
