yeah man, it's a clown car

Not anymore but God I wish I could have experienced this.

I went to one last month, it's enjoyable, just a bunch of quiet mexicans and a beautiful starry sky, it's not really that great for watching a movie for the movie experience, go to imax for that.

There are still a lot of drive-ins around.

There's one in my town. You should try it, it's comfy as hell. But I should warn you, the movie isn't the main attraction at the drive in. It's more of the experience.

the last one in my state closed a couple months back but it was good when going when a chick

It just wouldn't be the same. Part of it was, I imagine, these aesthetic as fuck pleasure palaces everybody was rolling around in like you see in the picture. Watching it in cutrate Mercedes econobox with a bunch of other wageslaves just wouldn't be the same fucking thing at all.

Usually sit in the back of a truck or in a camp chair when I go

Pretty good for checking out whatever dumb summer blockbuster action movie is out
Last summer my local one played some 80s cult b-movie horror one night which was fun

i haven't gone since the 70's, the audio was shit
but this thread is making want to go to the one near me

Probably had the little speaker thing you put on your window right? Mine had that until the mid 2000s or so when they switched it over to a radio station you can tune into

>you will never roll up to a drive-in with your girl to meet up with gang on Friday night in the 1960's

yeah those, the one near me still has them and the radio, their ticket price is a bit high for such shitty a/v though
i do miss watching while sitting atop our station wagon though. i think it would be fun to go for the nostalgia but would wear off after a few minutes

>pizza
>plates of fries and burgers

Today they're only around because of nostalgiafags and hipsters.

Back when they were actually a big thing it was because young people still lived at home until they got married and couples kissing in public was still looked down upon across a lot of America. That's why make-out points, drive-thrus and drive-in theatres were such a big thing. The drive-thrus and drive-ins had the plausible deniability that the make-out points did not have so you forked out the cash, especially in towns where the cops would escort you home if they caught you at the make-out point.

Their decline of these things can be linked entirely to the changing social mores that made it okay to make out with your girlfriend in public and the kids moving away from home at younger ages and thus having a place to party and fuck at away from their parent's home.

reading the reviews of my local and it seems most people go so they can have a night out and bring their infants along

In Sweden they have car-bingo in the rural places during summer. Like, they drive off to some field and sit in their car while some announcer calls out the numbers. Now that shit's just plain weird.

Theres one near my place, took my wife's son to see Secret Life Of Pets while we chowed down on some cheeseburgers

That, except it's an annoying(probably custom) car-horn signalling that they got bingo.

This wasn't actually weird. Tons of places had that. Drive-ins near me would serve stuff more akin to a bowling alley, including lots of beer.

Is it just so horny teenagers can attempt to rape girls?

>30yr old playing a teen

>gay playing straight

Did she put up a FIGHT?

Fun fact: In that pic
Olivia Newton John = 30 yo
John Travolta = 24yo

Anyone else find that line creepy as hell when they heard it?

No, you're the only one

I cannot imagine it being a good experience in modern vehicles.

But fuck those hugass american cruisers from the 70s with a couch instead of seats in the front.

Modern cars have god-tier AC to keep you cool or hot while you're in them, though.

I saw Shrek in a car theater as a kid

Chrysler had AC since 1953.

And the compressor requires engine to run, no?

>car theater

>the kids moving away from home at younger ages

this trend is being reversed

Yes, but these days parents lead a more active social life and don't have as much of a problem with their kids making out before marriage, leading to the kids being able to make out in their rooms instead of having to flee somewhere without adults. They might even just stay the night outright, without bundling being a requirement.

I'm an Yuropoor and I always wanted to experience something like this.

Looks comfy.

The drive in at cape cod is full like every weekend night over the summer.
Yeah dude, it's comfy as heck.

Were these things open whole year or only during season?

We would love in our cars if we weren't so fat

Only Weekends twice a month

What about winters? Or rain?

The best part about drive in's is showing up with one friend and paying for only two tickets when you really had a trunk full of friends. Also if the movie you parked at sucked you could always go watch another. Everyone's radio was turned up loud enough so that you could just sit on the grass in front of the screen and enjoy it. I miss being in 10th grade and pulling out my $100 1gb mp3 player and impressing everyone with it's radio feature.

>winters
