I'm not sure what Seth's involvement in both shows but AD and FG are polar opposites in terms of quality. I think people assume FG is Seth's baby and is therefore more involved in it, and by proxy his writing is actually shit. Who knows if that is actually the case though.

It's a surprisingly strong show. Especially the early episodes were one piece of gold after another.
Weakest character is Hailey though. She was the most fun when she was the ultra-liberal hippie. Now she's all "married to Jeff" and essentially nothing else.

Really clever joke and passes with very little commentary. Didn't even notice it till I watched it a few times.
It's what what makes AD better than FG. FG runs it jokes in your face to make sure you know your supposed to be laughing, American dad allows more subtlety, in older seasons anyway.
