>An Illinois man arrested after he posted a picture of himself burning an American flag over the holiday weekend will not be charged, a state’s attorney said Tuesday.
>Bryton Mellott, 22, was arrested on Sunday by police in Urbana, who said they had received complaints from social media users who had seen Mellot’s post. Other callers expressed concern for Mellot’s safety as some people online threatened to cause him harm, police said.
This is it, pol. I've lost all my faith in this country. I'm not even American yet (legal resident), but how do they not charge someone who burns down the great flag? Did they pussy out because of him being a fucking queer?
In some countries this hissy fit of his would earn him a public execution.
Why do we let this happen? Are they aware this is setting a very dangerous precedent?
Go back to where you come from then. Flag burning is a constitutionally protected right. It's a matter of free expression. If you can't appreciate that you should seriously just leave.
Andrew Garcia
>Freedom of speech doesn't count if you hurt my feelings
Ayden Morales
It's called freedom of speech.
Don't like it? Stay in your shit country, OP.
Logan Peterson
Burning the US flag is protected under the first amendment. >Freedom of speech.
However there are some restrictions, you can only burn YOUR flag and in YOUR property, if not you´ll be charged with arson,
he got doxed and fired from his wageslave job, I'm happy

I actually don't even know what the judge in that case thought. How does burning down a flag not constitute incitement of violence, thus exempt from the 1st amendment?
Carson Reyes
This. I don't give a fuck he wasn't convicted; he didn't break any laws. It's like liberals say: "You can say whatever you want under free speech, but that doesn't make you invunerable from other people calling you on your shit." It's just their own tactics used against them.
Jayden Hall
>cnn testing the pol waters: the thread
we aren't authoritarians or fascists. pol does appreciate opposing opinions
Jeremiah Scott
This happens all the time. There actually is a law that makes flag-burning illegal, but the Supreme Court always rules against it because of the 1st amendment. If he has a half-way decent lawyer, he'll be fine.
Talking about laws, there's also laws that make gun owners have a license to carry, but the Supreme Court has ruled against that way back in the past because it violates the 2nd amendment. But now it seems courts just don't give a damn about the 2nd amendment anymore, so who knows.
Anthony Wright
>How does burning down a flag not constitute incitement of violence Because they're not going out and saying >go kill government officials.
Adrian Cook
Flag burnings are protected under the 1st amendment, stay the fuck out you idiotic piece of shit.
As distasteful as it is, it should be and is free speech.
Juan Stewart
>I love freespeech! I mean other than when people I don't like use it
Eli Sanders
I think the better question is, how the fuck does burning a flag constitute incitement of violence?
Josiah Martin
>pol does appreciate opposing opinions And yet the minute you come across one, you accuse OP of being a CNN shill?
Leo Sanders
>but how do they not charge someone who burns down the great flag? Because its not fucking illegal to destroy your own property you fucking retard. Save your feelings for your fucking family, stop caring about what other people do all the time you small little cunt.

>YOUR RIGHTS END WHERE MY FEELING BEGIN

I'm fine with that. He's a fucking faggot, but free speech is free speech.
Logan Cooper
Shut up, you stupid foreigner. It's disgusting and reprehensible, but it's well within his rights.
Carson Campbell
This.
This thread, into the trash it goes.
Andrew Campbell
I don't give a shit if some retard decides to burn a piece of chink-made cloth.
If the flag had significant cultural significance, such as the flag raised at Iwo-Jima, or some other historical event was burned, I would surely be angry. But this type of shit is protected speech, no matter how huge of a faggot this attention-seeking whore is.
Blake Campbell
How the fuck does burning down a flag not imply "death to this country" to you. That's literally the meaning when you burn down a flag in every other country.
This is like going inside a gay club and saying death to gays. Why the fuck would you go inside a gay club when you don't agree with their views. If you don't like the US I think you should get the fuck out.
Joseph Stewart
right so check this out right now, sitting in a car, probably stuck in a bit of traffic, you know big city living and all that

On his way out of work he says goodbye to sara working at the front desk (a spicy little number) he jokingly asks if shes got any plans for the weekend "oh not much just hang with the boyfriend i guess"
A slight chuckle is all he can mange as he turns to the exit , a rage so pure and intense like gouts of flame spike into his soul all he can think about as he walks to his car is violently beating and raping the stupid whore sara fucking dumb bitch ill fuck the life out of her he thinks has he brings his 1993 honda civic to life
he is on his way home now where soon he will lock all the doors, close all the blinds then put on his $10,000 usd pink and blue wolf furrie costume

why indeed
Evan Allen
Its a flag you faggot, and inanimate unliving object.
who cares
Anthony Watson
The flag represents the freedom to burn the flag He's probably in legitimate danger of getting a severe beating, though. I certainly hope it happens.
Isaac Barnes
There is only one time when an American flag should be burned, and that is during a retirement ceremony. That motherfucker lucked out. He looks like his grip is too weak to make sure he doesn't drop the soap.
Jayden Martinez
All flag burners should be deported, it's fucking clear as day that they don't want to be here. I'm sure Canada would take them in.
Evan Davis
Uttering death threats is illegal and not protected free speech
Luis Brown
No, burning an icon of a country does not explicitly mean that you want anyone in it harmed, if that's what you mean People like him use it to express dissatisfaction with some of the nations policies
Owen Butler
Triggered?

The only way your rights can be denied in the US is if your actions are inciting violence or it´s a security matter.

Isaiah Thomas
>The flag represents the freedom to burn the flag
the flag of a country should be sacred though. If one burns it then he shouldnt be protected by the laws it represents.
athough america is the weird place where you can have the flag right next to your genitals and not get charged or anything
Lucas Gomez
>"death to this country" >death on everyone in that particular country
Jonathan Gomez
Fuck off. Brazenly expressing that you have a problem with the way your country is run should not obligate you to forfeit your legal protections.
Dylan Sanders
flag burning is pure autism, attention whoring and the domain of chimps. Go do a protest or some shit like that.
Jaxon Lopez
Oh so we're going with the death to the imaginary borders one. Alright, how's that an incitement to violence then? To wish the end of something that is entirely imaginary and symbolic?
Jose James
White people have evolved past emotional connections to pieces of fabric
Evan Rivera
>flag burning is pure autism as opposed to people who sperg out and demand that others be punished for harmless acts?

chances are he no longer feels that black Lives Matter or that fucking WHITE males are the worst thing on the planet.
Jack Flores
Do you think he was man enough to light the flag on his own?
Nolan Flores
Your daily reminder that flagfags are the MUH HATE SPEECH of the right.
FREEDOM OF SPEECH
HATE SPEECH IS FREE SPEECH FLAG BURNING ARE FREE SPEECH FREE SPEECH FOR ALL
FREEDOM AIN'T EASY
Nathaniel Green
A minor charge would encourage it. It would become a Left-wing battle patch of honor, and more people would do it.
Alexander Jackson
"death to this country" You are really butthurt to be using this kind of mental gymnastics. You just want to silence everyone who doesn't practice nationalism, which is exactly how us nationalists portrayed globalists (It was correct). Don't use the enemy's old tactics of silencing. >In some countries this hissy fit of his would earn him a public execution. Which is what makes our country great. Those other countries can go eat out a rotten asshole.
Asher Phillips
>I can't destroy my property because it offends people
Fuck you, Commie.

Ladies and ladies, right there is the next Bernie Sanders.
Zachary Torres
Everybody shut the fuck up and pay respect to based julie in there.

why even bother having a flag when people can burn it, piss on it, shit on it, step all over it?
Ryder Walker
He's perfectly in his rights to burn a flag. I'd still like to see him get the shit kicked out of his head but that's because he's a faggot traitor.
If you don't like this country then FUCKING LEAVE
Dylan Cook
are you getting triggered?
Ryan Wright
So the people who are proud of their nation have something to raise while those who have problems with it have something to demean You can have both you know

Seeing things like this makes me want to burn a gay pride flag in public. But it's always just a little thought I have. No need to funnel them money and cavort around like a child. He will grow up one day and look back upon this with embarrassment.
Isaac Sanchez
Protected under the First Amendment. Arresting his dumb ass is a waste of taxpayer money.
Isaac Nelson
Of course leafs don't care about their flag because they have the shittiest flag on the fucking planet.
Zachary Watson
>sjw shills coming out of the woodwork to defend a fellow nu-male

This. We were all edgy faggots once. He's just going to suffer from it more because the internet never forgets.
Leo King
>Arresting his dumb ass is a waste of taxpayer money.
Blame the Illinois legislate its their job to remove from state statutes but they haven't. Its the police's job to arrest people when they have evidence they met the statute.
Brody Young
it's not illegal to burn the flag there have been several court cases about it, you stupid dumbfuck you shouldn't be an american if you don't even know this but the guy should get his ass kicked
Ian Robinson
This while fiasco solidifies, in my mind, the apparently antiquated adage of "I don't agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
The first amendment isn't subjective, folks. You can't simply pick and choose the right to free speech based solely upon a particular situation.
Justin Reed
why would I be triggered by an american burning his country's flag lmao
is he proud that he can show this much disrespect to the state that allowed a safe place for his upbringing in the 1st place? its puzzling that he can defile one of the ultimate symbols of the country and not get charged for it, AND have people defending him. Western degeneracy I guess. He should take a big fat dump on washington's grave next.
Mason Cook
Why is this big deal?
You can't elegantly juxtapose it with another incident for hugeass political points?
That's freedom of expression you retard. Either everything is permitted or we have to have exact rules of how to limit it Who would YOU trust to have absolute authority over what you can and can't say or express? You wouldn't trust me, I wouldn't trust you. You wouldn't trust a lefty and surely vice versa. So that's why the best option is to allow everyone absolute freedom in the issue. No one is wronged or stifled.
David Robinson
Try burning a pride flag in Cuckanda, I'm sure you'll be sent to prison.
Sebastian Barnes
Quran burn is guilty flag burn is justice wtf

Why burn the flag of the country you live in? I'd understand burning your enemy's flag but your own? If you hate it so much why not leave?
These people should be trialed as terrorist because if they hate the country so much to destroy the flag what else are they willing to do to the country?
Michael Roberts
It's constitutionally protected freedom of expression but ironic as fuck.
>Hate everything about your country because of leftist social conditioning. >Burn flag and post it on social media like a giant faggot. >People get mad. >Invoke your rights the constitution allows you while literally shitting all over the country that protected those rights with blood.
Justin Ross
The precedent is already set. It's completely legal to burn the american flag. Do it in public and you might get your teeth kicked in though.
Christopher Baker
Sorry, I'm not particularly interested in burning a pride flag. I doubt I'd get in shit for burning a Canadian or Torontonian flag.
I could want to burn the UN or Vatican flag.
Though I can imagine getting in shit for burning the Quebec or Indian flag.
Christopher Martin
>is he proud that he can show this much disrespect to the state that allowed a safe place for his upbringing in the 1st place? Yup Feels good to not be cucked
Hunter Roberts
Because leftists are edgy faggots that were socially conditioned to hate themselves and their country.
Essentially useful idiots who think they're challenging the status quo.
Zachary Morris
Just because you think your country has lots of problems, doesn't mean you should want to leave it That's immigrant thinking 'lets all just pack up and go live in a good country, surely this shithole will one day magically fix itself'
Caleb Ross
>Wont be charged No shit. He didn't do anything illegal. Honestly, I'm surprised they arrested him at all.
Adrian Johnson
>exact rules of how to limit it
>what is the flag code
I was brought up with the notion that some things are just off limits, no matter how much grievance you may have. Its extremely distasteful and disrespectful to those who actually died fighting for the country.
>feels good to be a dipshit and feels good to defend a dipshit
whatever man, you people are weirrrd
Ian Butler
From the sounds of it the police put him in protective custody because of the outrage he started on social media.
Essentially screaming fire in a crowded theatre.
He put himself and others at risk for being a giant dipshit.
Matthew Diaz
How new
Adam Diaz

Hudson Nguyen
They're not disrespecting any soldiers, their problems are with the way the country is now

Just because it's a shitty gesture doesn't mean rights should be revoked. That's leftist bullshit if you think otherwise.
Adam Perez
I was in urbana today next time im there should i stop by his house and shove an American flag up his ass?
Hunter Rogers
>Just because you think your country has lots of problems, doesn't mean you should want to leave it Same reason not to hate it to the point to burn the flag. Burning a flag means you hate everything the country represents, not that you think your country is imperfect
