Beautiful, painstaking, handmade animation

>Beautiful, painstaking, handmade animation
>Some cgi, but still looked amazing
>strong story with deep symbolism, and actual Japanese culture and folklore
>lost the Oscar to the funny sloth meme movie with basic animation and ham-fisted "morals" and "lessons"

More like "Cuckbo and the Two Strings" amiright?

I mean oscars being bullshit that no one should follow aside, it is depressing how Disney went from being an ambitious studio full of passionate artists to shitting out consumerist garbage. The company should've died with Walt.

Kubo had strong technical aspects and horrible everything else, the story was crap OP, and Charlize sounded bored in every scene, the only good voice actors were Rooney and Sulu.

zootopia was a better movie

The animation was cool and all but the film itself sucked. Not funny, not a grand adventure, no memorable characters, not deeply impactful. It was a big disappointment to me 2bh

But, user, Kubo too was a shitty meme movie with ham-fisted "morals" and "lessons".

animation was top notch, terrible story though. the last villian was the weakest and had the least interesting concept.

>not funny
>not grand
go back to your marvel movies, cuckboy.

>calls me a cuckboy
>has a shitty opinion

It shows

Moana > Zootopia > Kubo

>Moana > Zootopia

I'm glad you're dead, beret wearing faggot

The trouble was that nobody wanted to fuck Kubo

fite me faggot

well, moana definitely had better music

Red Turtle > Kubo > Zootopia > Moana

I liked Kubo but the story was the weakest aspect. Very lackluster final act in general.

The only thing Kubo had going for it was the stop motion meme. Just because you go backwards in a medium doesn't somehow give you automatic merit. The characters were boring, the story bland, the designs barely above mediocre, it was made for hipster animators to wank over.

I found red turtle's story really unsatisfying

Keit-Ai would have won.

Dont bring capeshit into this to distract from how shit Mcconaugay was. Fuck the lore, fuck the mom that shit was retarded, and the kid was a bitch.

>LE GUMBO DUMBO AND HIS AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DING DONG

Who the fuck watches shit named like that in 2017.

the oscars pick the most famous animated movie to satiate mainstream desires every time because "its only animated". meanwhile a lot of these that lost out are move imaginative then any of the best picture ones

why dont you relax you cum crusted cock juggler

this.

to everyone else, is this your first oscars?

how do you children not know that the oscars always pick lame, unimaginative, unimpressive meme movies?

best picture? it's gonna involve liberal identity politics and it's gonna be dull. it will have some technical merit, some decent performances by the actors, but won't even stand out in those regards.

best animated? it's not going to be some sort of jap shit, even if it's jap shit by the CEO of nike's son. it's going to be whatever disney or pixar crank out that is slightly better than ice age and minions. after all, cartoons are for kids.

this exactly
did anyone at all even watch the zucchini movie?

>strong story
The story wasn't anything special and is honestly the weakest part

Chill out its just a name, bro.

My understanding is that people in France and Switzerland did.

>it's gonna involve liberal identity politics
stop

You mean a beautiful movie about how great Asian culture is lost to a movie that's a thinly veiled analogy saying niggers aren't evil line their genes a,d heritage say they are, it's the government that's making them evil.

Really waggles my walnuts.

"wait... that person died in the last scene?" the movie

>not deeply impactful
Literally fuck off the edge of my dick

This. This...this...
Kubo was an emotional rolllercoaster. Awesome. Laika's masterpiece.

Zootopia was mediocre. Big hero six and wreck it ralph are both waaaaaay better. Whomever pays more wins the Oscars. This year it has been proven.

This is the most obvious contrarianism Sup Forums has partaken in lately. I went into this movie wanting to love it, and indeed had a great appreciation for some aspects. But it was pretty shitty guys, come on. I'm convinced the only reason it got nominated is because of the famous voice actors and the (admittedly it's only positive trait) breathtaking animation.

Is it pain staking or pains taking?

oh i'm sorry, did i trigger you?

lets look back at the last decade:
slumdog millionaire - poverty and shitskins
hurt locker - war is bad, m'kay?
king's speech - people with disabilities
the artist - self-congratulatory pap about the entertainment industry
argo - self-congratulatory pap about the entertainment industry, also look at what imperialism hath wrought
12 yrs a slave - DO I NEED TO SPELL THIS ONE OUT FOR YOU?
birdman - self-congratulatory pap about the entertainment industry
spotlight - anti-catholic
moonlight - black, gay, drug dealer lives matter...

have you actually seen these movies?

>it's in english

all of them.

I'm sure

>can't make rational arguments
>resorts to "no u" type retorts

stay frosty, kiddo

I sincerely doubt you've seen those movies if you would sum them up as such.

We both know its the truth so why are you even bothering to go through these motions, what's the point?

>using a 3d printer
>painstaking, handmade animation

tell me how i'm wrong.

>oh god, my comparative lit degree didn't prepare me for this!

just stop, which movies did you actually see

for real

Reminder that both Zootopia and Kubo are great flawed movies (but only one gets really criticized for it's flaws). It's really a case of favoritism one and desperately defending your prefered, while both have about the same issues.

>Zootopia redditor:
Zootopia is a fun, greatly animated film that tackles the big complex issue of racism by using cute animals and dreamworks jokes, it has a lot of hits and it's nice how much thought was put into the innerworkings entire main city. Characters are loveable and have their own little arcs, and it's one of the most well made and interesting animated movies of the last couple of years. A future classic.
>Kubo user:
Zootopia's jokes are mixed, it's villain is weak and barely existing, it's story uses a pretense of "racism message" to hide the fact it's a generic run-of-the-mill story, infact, that message is all they have to give the movie any value besides a popcorn flick. And even then, the message isn't worked enough to hold the complex case of racism, and it only really works on one scene. The animation is nothing to write home about, it looks like any other CG animated movie.

>Kubo user:
Kubo and the Two Strings is a gorgeous animated movie made with love, passion and the utmost care. It tries to make an epic hero's journey and maturely tackles love, relationships, spirituality and how family bonds pull you towards success, all under child-like wonder and magic. It's ending is one of the most emotional climaxes in recent animated features, actually making you feel something. Kubo is true movie magic.
>Zootopia redditor
Kubo's jokes are mixed, it's villain is weak and barely existing, it's story barely manages to achieve the feeling of epicness and adventure, being badly structured and paced, the animation is all they have to give the movie any value. Basically, the animation was good but the story was shit.

I'm sorry, did a computer move and take pictures of physical sculptures hundreds of thousands of times over a few years?

Fuck off, shitskin.

>Fuck off, shitskin.

Pretty much this. Aside from the amazing visuals, everything else was weak as fuck.

Jesus you are one pathetic sack of shit. Hopefully at least you're an underage retard because it'd be embarrassing if this post was from a grown man.

How are you too dumb to notice that you're just exercising extreme confirmation bias, interpreting each movie in a way that allows you to feel like your narrative is true? How are you that dumb?

that picture makes no sense.

You know how you can tell the Oscars don't give a shit about animation?Because when it comes to the Best Animated Feature category they will, time and time again, pass over superior nominees that are foreign, indie, or just non-Disney in favor of the mainstream Disney/Pixar stuff because 'muh kids liked it'.

They'll pick Big Hero 6 over Song of the Sea and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.
They'll pick Frozen over The Wind Rises.

Meanwhile when it comes to voting for Best Picture the same voters will cast their vote for an obscure indie flick about a nigger-faggot that no one outside of NYC and LA gave two shits about.

Also keep in mind no live-action Marvel Studios movie has ever won an Academy Award because the Oscars don't take them seriously.

But Big Hero Shit won Best Animated Feature.

Zootopia was a better movie from a storytelling point of view and the characters were better, but obviously Kubo was much more technically/visually pleasing. So it's really a matter of opinion concerning which one is better, knowing that Zootopia wasn't exactly a world beater.

I did not like Kubo at all
Zootopia was one of my favs of 2016.

I've seen both and while I think Kubo is more artistic and a more impressive accomplishment production wise, Zootopia just felt like a more complete movie. I think I could enjoy rewatching Zootopia more even though I like Kubo more.

>Also keep in mind no live-action Marvel Studios movie has ever won an Academy Award because the Oscars don't take them seriously.

They don't win any awards because they're literal garbage you Marvel cuck.

Suicide Squad won an Oscar because a lot of people saw it and the color grading made the makeup look good.

Um... i fucking hate Marvel.

I'm glad they don't win any Oscars for their live action films, I'm saying the Oscars take animation as a joke so much they'll even give a Marvel movie an award whereas they have higher standards in other categories.

song of the sea was absolute dogshit, hated that movie

I could not believe it was by the same people who did Kells.

>Kubo was an emotional rolllercoaster.
I'm not one of your emotionless pathetic human beings. In fact, I consider myself pretty full of emotions(probably too much for my own good) . And I almost did not feel anything watching kubo.

>complains that they refuse to give best animated feature to good but obscure films
>complains that they give best picture to good but obscure films
which is it

still only insults, not arguments. prove. me. wrong.

what kind of sad education did you mush-brains receive that you can't even tackle what I said without throwing a tantrum and resorting to ad hominem.

shouting "confirmation bias" isn't making a point, and without actually asserting a position, it doesn't really undermine my point, either.

the academy used to do a better job awarding best picture to movies with universal appeal, excellence in execution, and though-provoking messages. e.g. braveheart, unforgiven, silence of the lambs, amadeus, deer hunter, one flew over the cuckoo's nest.

now it's either a film with a culturally liberal agenda or a friendly reminder about how great the entertainment industry is. I at least understand the latter, because how could a bunch of industry insiders resist that kind of reach-around. but to basically award best picture to a movie that stands on values only held by a minority of the nation? it's pitiful.

so you complain about the hurt locker yet you mentioned the quintessential "war is bad mmkay" movie, good job lardass

I didn't like Frozen but Wind Rises is so fucking overrated. It's a mishmash of two books incoherently thrown together with great visuals.

And I've seen a disgusting number of anime.

if you mean deer hunter, now who didn't watch the movie?

war is just the a catalyst for the problems in the character's lives to come forward. it's not a controversial point that war is a psychological challenge. the real story is deniro and walken's solutions to their problems, which clearly started long before they went to war.

in contrast, hurt locker is a meme movie about how the modern male is unequipped to handle stress because he's crippled by machismo. hawkeye-whatever-his-name-is isn't even close to believable as a real person. he's a caricature that only works in the silly reality of the movie, which, i might add, is a woman's idea of the male identity.

It's the hypocrisy about it.
Plus it just shows that they don't give a shit about animation whereas with BP they at least put some effort into it -- even if I don't always agree with the results.

This and only this.

Bet you spend your days reading "Oh My Disney!" blog posts don't you, faggot?

OK but am I wrong?

you were wrong to pointlessly break global rule 3, please refrain from doing that. Keep the discussion on topic and the unnecessary insults to a minimum.

>global rule 3

MOMMY MOMMY, HE'S NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES.

global rule 6

Who invited this cuck?

...

...

...

...

They should habe just realeased this its much better than the movie

This triggers me honestly
Kaguya is godtier

>obscure freakin' Chinese fuckin' things nobody ever freakin' saw"

This will never fail to trigger me.

tsk tsk, did you lose your way back to your homesite, little Redditor? :^)

>Braveheart
>good
Hue
Also never forget Kagemusha lost to Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears. Even outside of Best Picture, the Academy votes reflect the public consciousness of the time, not what actually was a good film. It's not a recent thing.

>minority of the nation
Minority by land space, based on body count liberals have the majority. Cities are densely filled to the brim with liberals, while red rural areas have a bunch of spaced out rednecks and millionaires.

what are these? they're hilarious!

in the last national election, Hilary may have had more of the popular vote than Trump, but she still didn't have the majority. She only had 48%. That, by definition, is a minority of the vote. Further factors of error include that voting doesn't equal believing. Many people voted strategically for her because they revile trump, and many people stayed home.

Moreover, many of those who did vote for her don't subscribe to the radical identity politics of SJWs and the beliefs of debauched coastal metropolises. it may have escaped you in your tublr-bubble, but you can be a liberal without being a genderqueer socialist. It's the exact same as the fact that many people voted for Trump that aren't racist or sexist.

To return us to my point, far-left cultural dogma is a vastly over-represented minority view.

>strong story
Mo.

mo story mo problems?

This. So. Much

>the Academy votes reflect the public consciousness

lolwut son?

Moonlight doesn't reflect anything anyone cares about. Literally nobody I know has even seen it besides me, and now that I have, I know they made the right decision.

The black experience.
The inner city experience.
They closeted homogay experience.
The drug dealing experience.
The incarcerated experience.

I mean, I can relate somewhat because it was told well enough, but I struggled to give a shit even for the 2 hours the movie was running. After that... forgettable in the extreme.
