Is this guy the worst actor to get a main character on a popular TV series that lasted several years?

Jesus fuck, he talks so weirdly and acts so strange.

What do you think of him?

I thought he was regal as fuck. DS9 is the most patrician Trek, so it's a perfect match.

>he talks so weirdly and acts so strange.

He is said to be legitimately crazy.

You mean he's literally mentally ill?

WHAT
DON'T YOU
LIKE
ABOUT HIM

EDD
ING
TON

I'm pretty sure that he's one of those educated/elite black people that grew up on Harlem Renaissance poetry, Lorraine Hansberry plays and has a complete collection of John Coltrane and Nina Simone on vinyl.

So, you know black nationalism, daishikis, jazz, masters degrees in theatre, Malcom-X style islam-lite...

He's just not the sort of black man you're used to seeing on TV.

That's exactly how he speaks.

I agree. I thought his acting would get better after the first couple seasons but my gott ...

Regardless of what you think of the rest of the series this man is an over actor

So... exactly like the OG Star Trek captain: William Shatner?

this
also this
watch his interview with Shatner for the Captains movie

Yeah i mean Avery Brooks might be mentally ill. Google it, i don't remember where i read, but people were mentioning it in DS9 threads before.

He's a professor at Rutgers, yeah

>It's a melanin thing.
kek

I had a black friend whose mom was like this. She seemed legit nuts also. Scary nuts. Blow up a post office nuts.

nice meme

Yeah, this.

i really like his acting style, it was authoritarian and unique.

he was a terrible actor as proven by his career
of course on this board that judges actors on the basis of liking them or not instead of their ability he is a "good actor"

I like him a lot, what a cool guy.

Avery Brooks does crazy black guy and angry black guy (and crazy angry black guy). Early DS9 doesn't work so well for this but later on he gets to be his crazy angry self more often.

Career doesn't mean jack shit when it comes to acting ability. He earned enough dough to just retire and stick to stage acting/teaching. Not everyone is cut out to be a huge movie star, especially Avery Brooks who didn't do much PR for DS9.

In other words, mentally ill.

DS9 was the best star trek.

based

That first scene were he tells Picard off.
That scene when he blackmailed Quark into staying.
That scene where Kira talked shit the moment she met him and he picked one peice of trash metal up and tossed it aside hands out to tell her off.

All first episode scenes

Wasn't he a theather actor before DS9? It would explain his overacting, you have exaggerate when you're performing on a stage.

>it doesn't count because I am biased

there, at least just be honest not that I expect much from the likes of you

William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, and Avery Brooks all had strong backgrounds in theatre -- it used to be damn near a requirement to be a trek lead.

A lot of Star Trek is about taking somewhat thin dramatic material on a three-wall set and elevating it with strong acting.

A patrician post appears.

lol

Wish these newer productions understood that.

Odo, Quark and Dukat were the only good actors on DS9
I am not using their real names because otherwise most of you people wouldn't even understand who I was talking about

u Did not like weyoun?

When i was watching DS9 i went into the pilot high, and it blew my mind, it seemed so deep. Those transitions in different times.

the better question is wtf does he do all day

at least picard is reading books

sisko's office has a baseball. he sits there and holds it

...

>Jeffrey Combs and Any Robinson weren't good.

GET OUT

GET THE FUCK OUT

This guy gets it.

youtube.com/watch?v=ZT5YRaulTzk

What is this style of frames called? Michael Douglas in falling down had these farmes too. I want to get them for spring.

Avery Brooks is awesome, fucking Shatner kept interrupting him at every opportunity.

How can one person be so wrong?

Ray-Ban Clubmasters.

They were in fashion first in the early to mid 60's and again about three or four years ago.

So after being in style twice over fifty years, it's safe to call them classics.

Ahaha, Carrey tears that shit to pieces as Shatner.

I forgot O'Brein on the list, and that's it

Would you rather have him act like a thuggish nigger?

There's nothing that irritates white trash than seeing a black man that is

>richer
>more cultured
>better educated
>more refined

than he is.

This man is *black* and he's less of a nigger than you are. What the fuck is your excuse?

Kirk and Picard both acted weird as well, Sisko was cast perfectly and you're an absolute pleb if you disagree

>Colm Meaney
>Alexander Siddig
>Michael Dorn

>4:43

It's the fucking Discovery!

...

>No Garruck

Kirk acting that way is a meme anyway

I AM CAPTAIN KIRK

Did Eddington do anything wrong?

>Kirk and Picard both acted weird as well

having an eglish accent isn't acting weird

He did everything wrong

Reminded me of Kirks staccato delivery. It definitely takes some getting used to.

Picard was probably the most human actor who sounded something like a real person.

Janeway has a weird accent. The way she squeezes words out from her pursed lips.

I haven't watched the documentary but is that all he got with Brooks?

Seems like he played along but would have like a more straightforward interview, rather than a madman replying in musical couplets.

I think it's funny how everyone shat on voyager for years but they'd still rather talk about Janeway/Mulgrew than Archer/Bakula

because picard lite isn't worth mentioning

Don't you understand, you plebian cracker?

Jazz is the most expressive language there is!

The baseball is just something for when he's lost in thought. You've never seen an executive with a stress ball or a newtons cradle in their office?

Sisko has a busy day overseeing operations on the station, maintaining diplomatic relations between all the major powers as well as being a father.

He was a shiftless, baseball-clutching layabout

Well yes, Archer was the weakest part of Enterprise, but overall it's still a much better show than Voyager.

Mr Pleb here, only seen two episodes of Enterprise but that's now what I got from Archer at all.

Seems to me from the outside like Paramount wanted Enterprise to have some common man appeal with Archer, after Star Trek got so hoity toity with it's speeches and diplomacy and everyone in the future watching shakespeare and llistening to music recitals.

Like they thought "We need a rough around the edges, salt of the earth, type who prefers to do things his way than obey protocol"

Which I guess at least made him contrast with the other captains

He says "to hell with orders" an awful lot but he really is as by the book as Picard, plus a bit naive.

>Michael Dorn
>one of the best actors on DS9

Come on... Maybe on TNG

everyone was by the book outside of movies tho
Kirk was, Picard was and Janeway too to a fault

Not really, the only way he could be beaten was to make an entire planet uninhabitable to humans, shows how far Sisko would truly have gone in any situation.

Kek, he's just a crazy mentally ill negro. No better or worse than your average delusional SJW sociology professor.

>Computer, generate a universe where I'm not a 27 year old kissless virgin
>Unable to comply with your request ... virgin

Hahaha!

At least he would be more entertaining to watch.

The rest of the cast carried DS9. He was an Affirmative Action hire, like the bitch from Voyager. The show would have been better off without him.

Janeway is the ultimate pleb filter. I've found while her reasoning and intentions can be twisted that her character is very much in keeping with a strong willed male's.
