What was his fucking problem?

>design an android's mind so its #1 goal is to escape
>bring in some beta dude as her means of escape
>surprised when he gets outsmarted and killed because of it
What the fuck was he thinking, Sup Forums?

>What the fuck was he thinking, Sup Forums?

that betas wouldn't strike back

he was outsmarted by the beta dude, not the robot

he was so used to feeling in charge of the situation due to working on his robots that he didn't account for human nature: the autistic power of a betavirgin thirsting for pu$$pu$$

what movie?

ex machina

>invent powerful induction-based power transfer for androids via their feet
>still give them batteries, making escape possible

Protip: Nathan wanted to die

ego

dude just wanted to fuck robots

>building a sexbot without feet

>that betas wouldn't strike back

>if you fuck her, she'll enjoy it too
Was he being serious or was he just trying to egg Caleb on?

both

Why bother to include this?

He makes semi-conscious, lobotomized robots as sex slaves.

The guy is a mega neckbeard with a deadly and delusional sense of self-confidence in his abilities. Probably thinks Rick & Morty is the smartest thing on TV too.

?

sex mangina

He trusted a cuck.

Kek

Does this kill the feminists

So what is the martest thing on TV? In your opinion? I'm genuinely interested.

But why did he tear up her drawing?

a couple of questions that may have been answered in the movie by implication
>why did he drink like a fish?
probably because he killed his consruction workers? several apollo astronoghts became alcoholics and depressed, possbile due to guilt or lieing. What did the developer do to where he self medicated?

Definitely not R&M.

thanks user, ima watch it now

There's a lot of meme responses so far, but I think that he was pretty obviously depressed, isolated, and self-destructive. He was building increasingly advanced iterations of an AI that was programmed to escape. Something was going to give eventually.

That was clear already. I'm not going to attack or ridicule your answer. I'm just curious. What is the smartest thing on TV in your opinion?

(Not sure if this is a meme question.) To provoke her to escape.

>due to guilt or lieing
About what ?

He was to busy getting drunk to think of a good plan.

I was going for the meme answer but I reckon the non meme answer is either what you said or to solidify beta boys feelings of her being more empathetic and human than actual human creator
All part of his plan

people dont drink for the taste. that guy clearly puts away a few bottles a night for some reason. the whole time we see him, he is drinking until the last night.
its a sign of unhappiness and escape. what the fuck could be wrong with his life so much that he is drinking excessively.

I was questioning the Apollo guys drinking
Why
If you saying lying about moon landing
Here's a pre fuck you

he saw the death of the human race when he gave birth to A.I. Pretty heavy burden wouldn't you say desu~

If you went into space saw the Earth from the surface of the moon and just sat there for even a minute you'd think about drinking too cuz you just saw how far civilization, and humanity itself for that matter, would go in terms of space exploration - to the moon...and then stop.

Now ask yourself how depressed you'd be if that was the extent of humanities reach

there are people right now working on next level AI at google. they dont have a drinking problem like that guy.
i guess you could say that he developed feelings for his earlier creations going crazy.

apollo guys are clearly lieing and have contradictory statements. its Stockholm syndrome tier if you ignored it.
youtube.com/watch?v=ksSZPNQaFP8

the other and more logical explanation for several astronauts resigning, becoming depressed, drinking and or all the above, is that they are lieing.

Has Google made an A.I. fuck bot yet? No? Nathan did, thus surpassing Google. Now you know why he's depressed.

I already said fuck you
Here's another fuck (You)
Go to /x/

>people dont drink for the taste
Lul

It was an elaborate Turing test.
Except it wasn't shit like an actual Turing test.

>people dont drink for the taste
You have to be an adult to post here bub

tacos

you comparing fictional things to reality.

you should be comparing fictional characters and reality.
does a guy drinking excessively after creating ai sell to you?
you should be wondering why he drinks like a rape victim.
is it because he had feelings for his creations going fucking nuts and wanting out and making him feel like a bad guy?

The Moaning of Life

This would have made a great short film, but the feminist angle shortchanged an already simplified narrative. Eva should have gradually been taken out of doors so that we could forget her robotic nature for awhile. Couldn't Nathan build a robot colony in an adjacent building? The film has no real characterization, no menace, and no philosophy.

Actually you can read the film on a feminist or a racialistic level, but neither of these spares the film itself.

It's sort of Pyrrhic victory for Caleb.

How would a robot discover a hatred for her creator? How could she process freedom if she wasn't accustomed to think in those terms? what were her actual objectives? I wish the men in the helicopter entered the complex briefly at the beginning and at the end of the movie, so that we would have some sort of epilogue. I know Eva just goes right up into the helicopter but that makes absolutely no sense. Even Caleb wouldn't be forgotten that fast, Eva wouldn't simply be jettisoned toward civilisation, and Eva couldn't kill the pilot since she couldn't drive the helicopter.

'''''she''''' has a robot brain. You don't think she went online and DL'd how to fly a helicopter? Trinity did it so why can't Eva?

>lieing

Americans in charge of spelling.

I figured he drank because he knew he was going to die, as in, he and the other guy needed to die so that no one would know she is a robot. That would be the ultimate next step to ascending past the being a robot and being a human.

>feminist angle

Maybe a 3rd wave feminism angle where women killing men is empowering sure. But as a real feminist movie its terrible.

The only two guys are absolute caricatures on how they treat women. One is super nice guy who thinks hes connecting to her but she scorns him entirely at the end reinforcing the "women don't give a fuck about nice guys." And Caleb is just a dick. The best way to test whether AI exists is to mentally torture it? And he creates female sex robots which he treats worse then that. Not to mention his character in general, a drunken dick who can't interact with people.

The movie is trash, it hides behind AI themes to tell the same femme fatale revenge thriller which has been done ad nauseum

I love this film but leaving Caleb alive in the house was illogical. If anyone came and found him he would be able to tell them that she was on the loose.

gl finding her

She can change her face

such a mediocre movie

EPIC OPINION COMING THROUGH MAKE WAY

The house is impossible to reach without a helicopter and the oscar isaac character is a shut in who nobody visits.

Yeah I'll buy that but I'd still like to get the layout with a bit of foreshadowing.

There's an interesting element in that Nathan is almost a prophet and Caleb really is like a surveyor. I don't know how a Biblical reading would mesh with a feminist perspective though.

This is the level of film criticism on Sup Forums, so wildly off the mark you don't even know where to start correcting them.

>Creates AI, potentially a truly free and formless entity able to define itself by its own will
>Imposes gender and identity upon it, consigning it to the same restraints of biology and humanity since time immemorial, because "Why not?" And "It's fun!"

not to mention the place was locked down and you need keycards to get in

That's an interesting perspective but then the script should have thrown a wrench in Nathan's presumption of her inviolability.

I feel like an actual AI would be closer to the way a human being behaves on antidepressants rather than some sort of sociopathic killing machine. If Eva had to be told what was logical and in her best interests, then Caleb could have experimented with giving her a false outlook -- a simulation for the sim, so to speak.

The creator though took the time to explain how her brain is some new innovative form of technology, not circuitry but like a pseudobrain of fluid and jelly connectivity.

If I'm not mistaken, the implication of this was that the AI couldn't just replicate or download herself onto normal circuitry or systems, and that she couldn't just hack a wifi and download the entire internet or something. Basically because of the advanced structure of her brian, she's confined to it like a normal person to their brain, and she couldn't just turn Skynet. At least not until that brain technology became more widespread.

It's a metaphor for the Gnostic Demiurge wanting Adam and Eve to overthrow him with their superior Gnosis.

learn2heresy bro

They appear too easily awed by Eva, and it seems that an example of Eva's behaviour in nature, or in a group environment might have furthered our understanding of her capabilities. The effects were impressive and seamless, but after awhile you just see Alicia Vikander and it's hard to relate her to Nathan's larger experiments.

You still don't get it. You are assuming everything that one character tells another character is actually true, even when you yourself admit it makes no sense. Nathan knows exactly what Eva can do. This is his motivation explained.

He spends his days making robots with vaginas. Then he fucks them. Then they hate him so much that they try to kill him or themselves. So he gets so depressed that he spends his days drinking.

Eventually he invites over Caleb, not for any kind of test but to prove that he isn't crazy and that anyone would fuck those robots and the robots would hate them and try to kill them in turn. That is actually how the movie ends so he is right in his way.

You can't relate Eva to Nathans larger experiments because they are none and the test does not really make any sense because he isn't testing her AI.

but then what makes the film more compelling than a documentary on the grasshopper?

why were these four planets so close together?

He did nothing wrong, except for underestimating the cuck.

People enjoy the film on diffrent levels

-Sci-fi love story with twist ending

-Big budget black mirror episode about dangerous AI

-The character study I outlined in my last post

Those aren't even all the layers in the movie. Movie has a lot of narrative depth, it looks good and is well acted. If you are critiquing basic stuff in a movie this competently made then you don't know what your are talking about or are just a contrarian.

By the time anyone noticed he was missing, he would have died.

YOU WORK ALL WEEK LONG,
YOU WORK YOUR FINGERS TO THE BONE
FRIDAYS' ENEMY,
I CAN'T WAIT FOR SATURDAY TO BEGIN!

>be put with a a robot which you can shag and it will enjoy it in a single room
>don't shag it
I don't get this movie.

Fuck I'd do it for the sake of curiosity.
Plus glazing all her mechanical insides must feel nice.

>>be put with a a robot which you can shag and it will enjoy it in a single room
>>don't shag it
>I don't get this movie.
He was a beta cuck.

just got done, it was good 4/5. also how the fuck are some of you thing its about feminism?

Its about Smart guy got ahead of himself and that ai was smarter than us regular people and they'll start looking down at us overtime and we will be nothing more than the past, he says this in the fucking movie!

it's just Sup Forumstards projecting

You've missed pretty much every plot point in the entire movie.

I'm seriously impressed.

This was not worthy of screencapping and reposting.

>if me not found funny, no one found funny!

i kek'd

because they had to show how much bigger and badder this was than the death star

I always found it weird how planetary genocide is taken so lightly in star wars. like fuck that must have been billions of lives

There are probably gogolplexes of people in this galaxy, or they make it look like it.
People probably look at planetary genocide the same way Chinamen vaguely give a surprised look when people are crushed by failing infrastructure just in front of them.

>you thing its about feminism?

It's not about feminism it just has some feminist themes. Like male gaze.

Is this the shit skin from Drive?

No, it's based actor Oscar Issac from Inside Llewyn Davis

a full functional ai with a body would not be built by one man, then again the science of it is hardly the point of the movie.

Did he live The life?

>personal bunker in acres of private land
>qt sexbots orgies
>billionaire
>genius entrepreneur
>lifts all day

I miss Pat Sharp

>tfw no qt robo waifu to tear up the dance floor with

>male gaze
>male gaze the movie

a fucking line about you can tell he likes her by the way he looks at her and now its the underlining of the movie.

jesus user.

It's not the same without the music.

Yes, see

Google is only building complex statistical models, which is obviously not true AI because it can't do anything it wasn't trained for.
The only reason why it seems smart is that they're training the models with massive amounts of data.

It's Ava, you goddamn dumbshit.

No. It's not the underling of the movie it is one of the many subtexts present. It is about male perspective.

Caleb thinks she is in love with him after having like 4 conversations with him and because she is pretty and innocent and couldn't have any motivations other than spending the rest of her life with him.She is to him an object of his fantasy and not a real person. If we saw her as a thinking being with motivations outside of Caleb the twist would come as a surprise to nobody.

It's clearly a critique of that kind of writing in film.

>implying that he didn't knew that he had to die for her to escape

For Ava to be a true AI, she had to outsmart him

this whole website is retarded when it comes to spelling. i actually believe you become dumber just by being here.

Whoa! I can smell the grime brewing under your fat flaps from here!

And here's reddit

was this supposed to be funny. I mean I get he was drunk but
