TOS, Star Trek 1-6, TNG, Star Trek 7-9, VOY, skip ds9 and enterprise

Star Trek 2 and 6 are the best films of the original cast

I'd started with TNG then watched DS9 and TOS(and movies)
then VOY and ENT

The last 3 movies were great. Don't bother with the older stuff.

Watch the original movies, then TNG, then DS9, then VOY, then ENT.
You should probably watch TOS at some point, it's fucking great, but the production values and camp would probably turn off a lot of modern viewers. Hard to recommend.

They're all kind of shit. The appeal was mostly the novelty of having actual (soft) sci-fi on TV instead of westerns in space. The reboots abandon this for Star Wars-tier trash and have no redeeming value.

Wrath of Khan is least bad of all of them, it's probably worth watching.

What soft sci fi TV series would you recommend instead of Star Trek?

I can't think of any good ones. You're better off reading books.

Got curious about TNG due to the episode The Innermost Light, now I want to watch the whole thing, anything lore wise I should know before starting?

The inner light? Not really, TNG was made so fans can start fresh there, it has little nods here and there to TOS but nothing major.
