It will only work if the do Snake Eater first and even then i doubt it will work, it wont go for the r rating because its too risky and go the way assassins creed did

The story would need to start at MGS1 but the story of that game is heavily dependent on MG1 and MG2. The plots of MG1 and MG2 games are simultaneously too simplistic to adapt into a feature film AND too complex to summarize in an opening crawl or expositional dialogue.

It really can't. It chronologically takes place but so much of the emotional weight relies on foreshadowing and knowledge of future events. Just like the SW prequels.

No, but seriously, the games are already incredibly long. MGS4 only has literally NINE HOURS OF CUTSCENES. That's NINE HOURS of kino, no gameplay whatsoever. If you were to watch ONLY THE CUTSCENES for MGS4 it would take you NINE HOURS.

How do you cram NINE HOURS of character development, plot building, twists, dialogue, etc into 3 hours of kino?

That's why videogame movies never turn out well, and I still don't understand why they keep making them. It's retarded. With a videogame you are not only controlling the character, you are spending countless hours with it. You learn to care for it, and all the other characters. You spend so much time looking at them, they become almost real. So that after playing all the preovious games and spending countless hours on them, when you're finally on top of fucking Outer Heaven fighting Liquid, and the music from the first game kicks in, and then Liquid goes and says "YOU'RE... PRETTY GOOD" it fucking feels real, it feels organic, it's the best fucking feeling because you feel like you're a part of the story, like these are friends you've known for a long time.

Then they make a fucking movie and some asshole reddit actor makes a shitty fucking quip and says "Hah, nice joke. You're pretty good!" and IT JUST FEELS CHEAP. It's AWFUL. WHY DO THIS? WHY? WHY RUIN SOMETHING SO GOOD? FUCK.

Metal Gear Solid is the only game that's canon. I REFUSE to play the rest, except for VR missions, that was cool

MGS3 plays it safe but its a more cohesive take on what MGS1 was and a more conventional take on some of MGS2's themes

1 and 4 are Solid (A clone of Naked)
2 is the twink boipussi they trained to be next Solid, but he failed miserably and fucked a woman (Rule #1 of Perfect Soldier: Never fuck women), and then that women cucked him with a 80yo man, and then he became a Cyborg with no feelings, except when he remembers the women that cucked him and starts to cry.
3 and 5 are Naked (The "dad" of Solid)
6 is Venom, a random guy they picked up and hypnotize to believe he is Naked

There isn't that much story you need before MGS1. All you need to know is that Snake is a badass, and had to kill his father on a mission. Rest of it is reviled in MGS1, That's basically everything that happened too.

I don't know who could get the tone of the series right though, i think they work best as games.

Why would you bother doing an MGS4 film. An MGS1 film would be piss easy to write and condense what matters into a script. Just cut out the 3 hours of Snake peeking around corners

You can start MGS with a prologue of Snake killing Big Boss and finding out he's his father, then cut to him chilling out in Alaska with his doggos. All the explanation Fox needs is that he's Snake's friend who he had to kill.

I could say the same for MGS3 though.
MGS1, 2 and 3 are all great storys, but in very different ways. Everything went downhill from 3 though.

A couple of characters remarked that Snake looked older than his age during Shadow Moses. So he's aging process might have already taken affect during that time.

Fox is a lot more interesting if you play 2 and realise he fucking hates himself for accidentally killing his girlfriend and is glad when Snake kills him, only to be rezzed and put in a cyborg suit that forcibly keeps him alive. He's not even really edgy apart from the hallway scene, he just wants to fight his friend one last time then dies saving him.

Having a painful backstory doesn't inherently make a character edgy. Raiden's "it even rained the day I was born" speech in 4 is edgier than anything Fox says.
