It's not bad. Imo almost as good as the first two.

It's a really depressing movie though. I also remember the DC being a lot more praised so you should probably watch that if you can.

Have you seen the Assembly Cut? It's fucking kino.
Fincher had a great movie and the jews at Fox butchered it.

The uncut version is much better, but killing characters from Aliens without even a good scene about it was dumb.

Nah, their time was up. It's about Ripley again, rather than generic marine and adopted child. They might well have made for interesting situations and interactions with the prisoners, but their deaths set the bleak tone which is fine by me. I love how grimy and depressing Alien 3 is.

They did show the crash, that'd be the beginning of the film.

It follows Aliens, which was everyone's favorite. The actors they used are british. Its scary but it has less alien creatures. I think the FX were good. There isn't anything wrong with it like there is stuff wrong with Alien 4.

There is no "directors cut" since Fincher walked off the project in post production and has since disowned it.
There is the work print cut, which has a lot of characterization and subplots that flesh out the movie a little more.
I highly recommend the blu ray box set if you're really into the franchise. It's worth it for the shitload of featurettes on each of the 4 movies, and the commentary tracks.
Generally speaking any commentary track by scott is super informative about the whole process, and Cameron as always is a smarmy cocksucker talking shit and handing out backhanded compliments left and right while going into a lot of technical detail about the shots and effects (it's an absolute joy to listen to).

You're missing the point, watch the making ofs and you'll see Fincher never managed to get everything he had in actually made, like the shots where the Alien looks like a Dragon. I bet that's part of the reason he disowned the film and didn't bother with the assembly cut.

And even with his vision irreparably compromised, it's still a worthy sequel and final chapter. That's how good he was.

this and prometheus are the only films I've seen yet where a fan edit//cut is superior to the released film.

Has anyone read the Alien Engineers script? There were a ton of things in it I thought were infinitely better than Prometheus, and a whole bunch of things which were worse.

Ultimately, the fan-edit is still the best rendition of the story, for all its faults.

I'm going to bump this thread because I'd like to discuss Alien^3 with other anons.

I myself am not crazy about Alien^3, but I like the franchise enough that I've been studying the third film lately. I do like the assembly cut much better than the original, which is a totally uncontroversial statement.

I would especially like to discuss the DEATH-ORDER of the various denizens of Fury 161, between the two cuts of the movies. Bumping for now.

So basically, whereas ALIEN had a PRINCIPAL CAST of SEVEN (in the death-order), and ALIENS had a PRINCIPAL CAST OF SIXTEEN for same purposes, I look at Alien^3 and I see a "PRINCIPAL CAST OF TWENTY-NINE". This isn't a cast-as-such everywhere, because there are unseen characters. Basically it goes like this: the colony has 25 prisoners, and three staff. Then ripley comes in and make 29 (not including the dead from her pod). This is my 29 count, for the body of the film, in both versions.

The recut version does give all 28 deaths including the characters that just vanished in studio hack up.

Bishop isn't killed, though. He was damaged in Aliens, and Ripley gets him to work in Alien 3.

After Alien ans Aliens it was depressing. Also all that fucking napalm/whateverthefuckfuel and they couldn't make a flamethrower. Even alien resurrection had a flamethrower. Even Prometheus had a flamethrower.

There're several fan edits of prometheus, most of them cut stupid scenes and add deleted ones so overall the fan edits make more sense.

Aliens is an okay siege movie with more excellent production values and a memorable but somewhat memetastic cast. Alien3 is kino character-drama with a monster in the background doing stuff. Alien Resurrection is every other 90s sci-fi action movie with a shallow Alien-skin on top. Prometheus does a very good of re-mystifying the series and has David (Michael Fassbender) who is arguably the best character in the whole series.

Also there are the AVP movies which are bad. The first one takes forever to get going, is dark and ugly to look at and doesn't do anything exciting with the premise. The second one is a big chaotic slasher/monster movie which could have maybe been cool if it wasn't so absurdly dark that 90% of the movie is just a black screen and hissing and screaming.
