Jesse heavily implied that he didn't want to kill him and Ford was still acting nervous around him. He's not only a coward but a idiot too

Speaking of the movie, can anyone explain to me why Jesse reading that Dicks got arrested made him realize the Fords were gonna kill him? My interpretation ended up being that him knowing Robert was lying about not being there when it happened made him question what else was Robert lying about so he figured he wanted to kill him but there's gotta be some better explanation I completely overlooked
