What are some good Shakespeare adaptions worth watching? I've read them in book form and seen a few plays but I'd like see what decent adaptions have been done in film or television. I enjoyed pic related a lot, the final scene was portrayed beautifully and was very haunting.
What are some good Shakespeare adaptions worth watching...
The lion King is ultimately the best.
But an Australian version of Macbeth was made a few years ago which was actually alright.
Check out Ran, by Kurosawa. It's King Lear but anime.
10 Things I Hate About You
Ah yeah I forgot about Ran, I actually have it on my computer. Thanks I'll go watch it.
Omkara
Kenneth Brannaughs Hamlet
A Midsummer Night's Dream 1998?
Othello
And even though its not a shakespeare play but fan fiction, I enjoy Shakespeare in Love for its authentic trappings
>Macbeth starring Fassbender
>Throne of Blood, adaption of Macbeth
>Ran, adaption of King Lear
...
Anything Orson Welles did.
But most notable Chimes at Midnight.
One of my favourite Shakespearean movies.
It's not a straight adaptation. It has documentary scenes and some parts of the play staged, but this is really fantastic and a must-watch if you're interested in Shakespeare.
bellend tarp's macbeth
Did they ever find Richard?
How was the Peter Books King Lear? I love the one by Thames.
There are a lot of successful productions of Antony & Cleopatra... This is probably not the most successful one, but it has two great leads.
The Peter Brook version is very bleak and opts for quiet action over extended pieces of dialogue. He was inspired by Jan Kott's absurdist interpretation of the play, and it shows throughout the film. It's probably one of the darkest adaptions of King Lear that I've seen.
Taymor's Titus
I'll have to check it out sometime. There are so many good ones but I'm glad a lot of the modern reinterpretations are not broadcast on television. It seems like in Canada we should find a few Stratford productions displayed on the CBC or something, but it's never happened as far as I can recall.
Your response reminded me of a line from Midsomer Murders... "Will they get 'Much Ado About Nothing' in Poland?" "We're going to make it more visual!"
I was going to say this
also depending on whether you can get it or not, simon godwin directed a particularly good production of hamlet last year that is now on dvd. I don't know how it comes across as a film however, it may not be as good
Why do you like this film?
I'm a virgin.
But even that won't satisfy you.
